The Spanish High research Council (CSIC), through its Institute of Earth Sciences "Jaume Almera" (ICTJA) and its Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM), together with its partners, the University of Barcelona
(UB) the University of Granada (UG), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), The Spanish Institute
for Geology and Mining (IGME) cordially invite you to participate in the 16th edition of the biennial
Deep SEISMIX International Symposium. The symposium will be held in Castelldefells, south from
Barcelona, from Sunday October 12 to Friday October 17, 2014. An excursion is planned for the week
after the symposium.
As in the previous symposium of the SEISMIX series, the main topic will be the structure of the crust and
upper mantle of the continents and their margins using controlled source seismic methods. Special
emphasis will be devoted to the recent advances that provide images of the crust and upper mantle with
unprecedented detail. The symposium also welcomes papers using all types of energy sources, covering a
wide range of scales and applied in a variety of settings including: the continents, their margins, but also
the deep ocean basins. Finally, we strongly encourage the presentation of technical papers focusing on
methodological aspects of seismic imaging, tomography, joint inversion, and the latest advances in full
wave-field techniques.

Program
There will be a single session for oral presentations (no parallel sessions), and, importantly, adequate time
allocated to display and present posters. To emphasize the broader scope of this new generation meeting
we have called "16th SEISMIX International Symposium on Multi-scale Seismic Imaging of the Earth's
crust and Upper Mantle. As in previous meetings one of the key objective of this symposium is to
encourages discussions, so it is encouraged that the authors be as provocative as they can be. Therefore
posters are a very important component of the meeting. We invite both oral and poster presentations and
recommended that you prepare your oral presentation also as a poster to obtain the maximum attention to
your results. The conference topics will include (but are not strictly limited to):
Passive continental margins, (structure and dynamics)
Active continental margins, subduction structures and processes
Oblique, transpression structures and dynamics
Intra-continental deformation collision and accretion
Continental rifts and basins
Mid-ocean ridges and deep ocean basins
The continental mantle
Innovative seismic acquisition and processing techniques
Numerical modelling and inverse methods in seismology
Integrated geophysical studies (seismic, gravity, electromagnetism, etc)

Symposium Abstract Volume
The organizing committee will assemble the abstract volume. The symposium abstract volume will be
produced prior to the Symposium and distributed to the participants on arrival at registration.

Each presentation requires an abstract, which should be submitted by filling in the Abstract Submission
form before the abstract submission deadline (27th June, 2014). The Symposium venue is equipped with a
digital computer projector for oral presentations (e.g. Powerpoint, PDF). Please submit your abstract using
the Abstract Submission Form
Oral Presentations
Abstracts specifications are similar to previous symposium requirements.
Poster Presentations
The size of the poster will be communicated after the abstract submission deadline. Please prepare posters
to fit this space.
Symposium Registration
Four options have been designed for the registration. It has to be done by on line by filling the
Registration form. Payment should be done by bank transfer only.
OPTION 1: Includes conference fee, hotel accommodation cost in individual room , lunch and
dinner for the conference days, one social dinner and a excursion. The cost is 955 Euros for early
registration and 1055 Euros for late registration.
OPTION 2: Includes conference fee, hotel accommodation cost in shared room , lunch and
dinner for the conference days, one social dinner and an excursion. The cost is 765 Euros for early
registration and 865 Euros for late registration.
OPTION 3: Includes conference fee and lunch for the conference days. It does not include
hotel accommodation, dinners and excursion. The cost is 320 Euros for early registration and 390
Euros for late registration.
OPTION 4: This is only for room partners that will not participate in the conference. Includes
hotel accommodation cost in shared room, lunch and dinner for the conference days, one social
dinner and an excursion. The cost is 600 Euros.

Symposium Proceedings Volume
All previous meetings have resulted in proceedings issues in international journals, and we intend to
continue this tradition. It is is planned to offer a selection of articles from SEISMIX 2014 for publication

as a special issue of Tectonophysics. The expected deadline of manuscript submission will be August
15th, 2015. We would appreciate your early expression of interest of contributing in this publication. We
will compile a preliminary list of contributions for the publisher.
