New CIBC Run for the Cure Site Launches in Medicine Hat
May 25, 2016 (Medicine Hat, AB) – The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) announced
today that it will launch a Run site in Medicine Hat as part of the Canadian Breast Cancer
Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure. The Medicine Hat Run site – located in Echodale Regional
Park – will join more than 60 sites in communities across Canada to host the annual walk/run
event on October 2, 2016 in support of raising funds for a future without breast cancer.
In previous years, Medicine Hat residents supported the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
through the Bustin’ Loose Race to End Breast Cancer. Over the past 10 years this event has
raised approximately $935,000 for the Foundation. Its evolution into a full-fledged Run site reflects
the deep commitment of people in the Medicine Hat community to raising much needed funds for
breast cancer research, education and support programs.
“We look forward to welcoming Medicine Hat as the newest official CIBC Run for the Cure site.
We hope that past participants and the rest of the Medicine Hat community will register and
fundraise to help move us closer to a future without breast cancer,” said Lynne Hudson, CEO of
the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. “We’d also like to offer huge thanks to the organizing
committee, participants, volunteers and sponsors of the Bustin’ Loose Race to End Breast Cancer
for their tremendous commitment to the cause over the past decade.”
The CIBC Run for the Cure site will be located in Echodale Regional Park in Medicine Hat, Alberta
which is the same location where the former Bustin’ Loose to End Breast Cancer event took place.
Participants can choose between a 1km or 5km route, similar to the CIBC Run for the Cure sites across
the country.
Long-time lead partner CIBC is already galvanizing support for the new site among its team members
and clients.
“CIBC is thrilled that an official Run site is coming to Medicine Hat and our local employees are already
rallying behind it,” says Tom Weber, Senior Vice President and Region Head, CIBC. “Through 20 years
of partnership with the Foundation, together with Run participants, we’ve helped change the face of
breast cancer from a disease that people didn’t talk about, to a movement that brings together friends,
families and loved ones to support life-saving research and support programs. We look forward to
teaming up with the Medicine Hat community to raise funds for a cause that is near and dear to our
hearts.”
Registration is now open for the 2016 event. For more information about the CIBC Run for the Cure or
