European
Breast Cancer
Conference
Letter of Welcome
The European Breast Cancer Conference in 2016 (EBCC-10) will take place in the
context of very tangible advances that have been made for patients in recent years.
These advances have been largely achieved through the successful application of a
multidisciplinary approach in the treatment and care of breast cancer.
EBCC is proud to have played its role in driving these advances for breast cancer
patients as a unique, dedicated multidisciplinary platform and the largest breast
cancer conference outside the US.
This edition of EBCC (EBCC-10) is again firmly based on a holistic vision of breast
cancer and brings together scientists, clinicians, patient representatives and health
professionals of diverse profiles to tackle key issues facing patients throughout the
continuum of the breast cancer journey. The conference programme will provide
the latest insights into the areas of prevention, optimal diagnosis, treatment,
survivorship, the advance driven by research in all of them so that EBCC again fulfills
its mission to accelerate the translation of clinical research into best practice made
widely available to patients all over Europe.
EBCC-10 will replicate the highly successful “Multidisciplinary Teams in the Real
World” and will have a strong focus on the work of the breast team throughout its
programme. Our aim is to strengthen the knowledge of different members of the
breast team as well as help ensure the optimal work of the team as a whole. The
conference registration fee structure has been designed specifically to support the
participation of breast teams.
The conference will again showcase practice-changing new data and provide
delegates with the opportunity to discuss it in sessions with innovative, interactive
formats.
EBCC-10 will highlight important regulatory developments in Europe. A European
Parliament resolution has stipulated that by 2016 member states should have
enshrined in law that all breast cancer patients are to be treated in a specialised
breast centre or unit. At EBCC-10, we will review the impact this resolution has had so
far on the treatment of breast cancer, we will map the status of its implementation
and discuss how best to direct our advocacy efforts in 2016 and beyond.
ADVANCE PROGRAMME
We look forward to welcoming you to Amsterdam on 9 – 11 March 2016: EBCC-10
awaits your active participation. Help us make it our best ever conference!

EBCCouncil
The European Breast Cancer Conferences are the responsibility of the not-for-profit
association European Breast Cancer Council (EBC Council). The European Breast
Cancer Council (EBC Council) is an association of European organisations involved
in breast cancer.
The three founding members of the organisation are EORTC Breast group, EUSOMA
and EUROPA DONNA. The mission of the Association is to raise awareness and
improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care of breast cancer patients.
Founding Members
EUROPA DONNA – The European Breast Cancer Coalition is an independent, nonprofit organisation whose members are affiliated groups from throughout Europe.
The coalition works to raise awareness of breast cancer and to mobilise the support
of European women in pressing for improved breast cancer education, appropriate
screening, optimal treatment and care and increased funding for research. EUROPA
DONNA represents the interests of European women regarding breast cancer to
local and national authorities as well as to institutions of the European Union.
The EORTC Breast Cancer Group is a multidisciplinary group of clinical researchers
and scientists involved in the development, coordination and implementation of
clinical and translational research, endeavouring to improve treatment of breast
cancer patients in Europe and beyond. The EORTC BCG has led and/or supported
studies that have changed clinical practice in the management of breast cancer,
including breast conservation, treatment of DCIS, management of the lymph nodes,
neo adjuvant chemotherapy etc..

The European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA) is a non-profit
organisation that promotes the multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer
diagnosis and treatment. Its members are specialists from across the spectrum of
professions involved in breast care. EUSOMA is committed to promoting interaction
between all the health professionals involved in breast cancer care with the aim of
ensuring that all patients with breast problems have equitable access to high quality
care delivered by specialist breast teams. EUSOMA is directly involved in setting
evidence based standards that form the basis for certification and accreditation of
breast centres and the clinical care that they provide.
ADVANCE PROGRAMME
EUSOMA achieves this by organising and participating in workshops and other scientific
meetings that consider current evidence that forms the basis for setting standards for
early detection, diagnosis, treatment and after care. In these meetings European experts
are invited in the different disciplines dedicated to Breast Cancer. These guidelines
and recommendations are disseminated throughout Europe. The EUSOMA guidelines
‘The requirements of a specialist breast centre’ are recognised as the current reference
document on the definition of breast centres and form the basis for Breast Centre
Certification. For additional information on EUSOMA please visit: www.eusoma.org

Debates
Debates should follow an Oxford style format. A controversial topic is introduced,
scientifically challenging a proposer and an opponent to the motion, and opened for
debate with the audience.
At the end of the session, the audience takes an informal vote.
Plenary Session
Plenary sessions will include a keynote lecture of an eminent speaker in the field of
breast cancer as well as Late Breaking and New Data abstracts.
Multidisciplinary Team in the Real world session
MTR Panels are interactive and addressing topical subjects comprising a moderator
and expert panel representing various disciplines.
The Multidisciplinary Team in the real world is an interactive session where a clinical
case will be presented followed by an open discussion between the audience and
the panel of experts.
Clinical Science Symposium
A Clinical Science Symposium is focused on a topic/theme followed all the way
through; research presentations for instance are to include the latest perspectives of
basic, translational and clinical research issues in a specific field.
The session provides a forum for presentations followed by high level scientific
discussion of the different research areas and best oral abstract(s).
Teaching Lectures
Teaching Lectures are state-of-the-art lectures and give an overview of the latest
developments in the field of breast cancer. This lecture is given by a well-known
expert who has the ability to captivate the audience’s attention regarding the future
of cancer treatment and care.
Special Manifesto Session
The manifesto is a statement document prepared by the European Breast Cancer
Council working group and launched at the European Breast Cancer Conference in
Amsterdam.
Partners in Breast Cancer Workshops
Societies have been invited to compile Breast Cancer Workshop Programmes related
to their field.
Real World Forum
These are sessions focusing on significant “real world” issues and topics of interest to
all participants. Perspectives of patient advocates, scientists, medical professionals,
policy and other experts will be presented.
ADVANCE PROGRAMME
Opening Session
The Opening Session will include the European Breast Cancer Science Award
(Emmanuel van der Schueren Lecture) and The European Breast Cancer Arts and
Humanities Award.
