Uninsulated Messenger Wire System (AMKA)
The AMKA System is a reliable, safe
and easy way to build Low Voltage
Overhead Line System. Thanks to
few components and short poles
it is very favorable to build. AMKA is
used e.g. in Finland, Estonia, Hungary,
Russia and Turkey.
The uninsulated messenger
cable consists of one to five black,
weather resistant, polyethylene insulated conductors (high density
or cross-linked). The conductors are
twisted around a bare aluminium
alloy messenger (tensile strength
300 N/mm2). The messenger, which
is also the neutral conductor, takes
all the mechanical load.
The cross-section of the main
phase conductors can vary from 16 to 150 mm2 to suit the network’s
load currents, maximum acceptable
voltage drop and short circuit currents.
The 16—95 mm2 size of the messen­
ger (neutral conductor), depends on
mechanical and electrical conditions.
The cable can be supplied with one or
two insulated conductors for street
lighting.
