ETHICS AND DEONTOLOGY FOR SOCIAL WORK
INTRODUCTION
Ethics and Deontology for Social Work has the general aim of recognizing professional responsibilities,
evaluating dilemmas arising out of professional practice and establishing criteria for appropriate
decision-making.
This subject will offer the necessary theoretical tools to address problems that social workers must face
in practice as well as the application of those tools for a proper understanding and implementation of
professional ethics.
COMPETENCIES
- Recognize the features of morality as a specific dimension for human beings and professional
activities.
- Know the ethical traditions of social work.
- Understand the complexity of ethical decisions.
- Be able to identify professional responsibilities, creating habits for addressing and resolving
conflicts.
- Provide criteria for the management of complex ethical conflicts, dilemmas and problems that arise
in social intervention.
- Identify the keys to professional morality in social work.

1. Basic concepts of moral philosophy.
2. Contemporary ethical theories and social work.
3. Ethical principles of social work.
4. Applied ethics and professional deontology.
5. Typology of moral dilemmas.
6. Conflict resolution and decision-making in social work.
