1. Zamia furfuracea L. f. 澤米蘇鐵(牙買加蘇鐵) (Photos 31–32) Aiton Hortus Kew. 3: 477. 1789. Palmifolium furfuraceum (L. f.) Kuntze, Revis. Gen. Pl. 2: 803. 1891. Stem tuberous, cylindrical, to 75 cm tall or more, ca. 20 cm in diam., old plants branched at apex. Leaves 5 –7 per crown, 0.5–2 × 0.1–0.25 m; petioles 15–25 cm, spiny, rare unarmed; leaflets 10–15 pairs, thick and stiff, obovate-oblong 16–18 × 4–6 cm, apex obtuse or irregular. Pollen cones solitary, erect, cylindrical, 7–12 cm long, 1.8 –2.5 cm in diam., densely light brown tomentose; peduncles 8 –10 cm long, 0.8 –1 cm in diam., densely light tomentose; microsporophylls in 10–12 vertical rows of 18 –20 each; sporangia in two patches on the lower edges of the sporophyll with a sterile center band 2–5 mm wide. Seed cones solitary, erect, cylindrical, 16–24 cm long, 6.5 –7 cm in diam., densely reddish tomentose, the sterile apex mucronate, ca. 2 cm long; megasporophylls arranged in 10–12 vertical rows of 14–15 each; peduncle 10–20 cm long, 1.5–2 cm in diam., densely tan tomentose. Seeds red when ripe, 1.1–1.5 × 0.8 –1 cm, light tan, smooth. Locality: Cultivated in gardens. Y. W. Lam s.n. (HK sheet 34677) Distribution: S China (cultivated). Native to Mexico. Uses: Ornamental.
