Plants With A Purpose
Senecio cineraria (common name Dusty Millar) Overview This plant has spectacular silvery white foliage that are delicately divided and covered with soft dense felt appearance (tomentose). Its striking colour can be used for contrast in mass flower colour or as a great contrast in between darker leaves. It would be a great addition to your horticultural therapy garden. It has an upright growing habit and reaches up to 60cm in height and width. When it flowers in spring, the flowers are cream to yellow. It is considered an herbaceous perennial in Mediterranean climates like Adelaide but in cooler climates it is treated as a summer annual. It grows in a range of soils with good drainage, and although has a medium water requirement will however tolerate drought conditions once established. It likes full sun to part shade. Horticultural Therapy Uses Propagation by cuttings from semi hard stem tips in summer or by seed. Horticultural Therapy South Australia
