Japanese Snowbell blossoms
ring in the summer season
T. he dainty flowers and delicate form of Japanese
Snowbell make this small tree a favorite of plant connoisseurs. Its small, pure white, bell-shaped flowers are
suspended beneath the petite, glossy green leaves of late
spring. In late summer, they mature into handsome beansized brown fruits that linger into winter and provide seasonal interest.
Snowcone®
Japanese Snowbell
features the same
pure white, bellshaped, pendulous
flowers as the species, but is unique for
its densely uniform
and pyramidal shape.
Its shape resembles
the inverted icy
snow cone treat that
inspired its name.
Planted in rows,
groves or in large,
landscape-size .
containers, it lends a formal air to landscapes.
Snowcone® flowers heavily at an earlier age than
seedling-grown trees, and is also resistant to the winter
twig dieback problems that are often seen in trees of the
species.
Snow Charm® Snowbell
grows reliably into a predictably uniform, rounded shape
- a feature that will be appreciated by landscape designers.
Unlike trees grown from seedlings of this highly variable
species, it can be counted on
to develop a rounded canopy
of about 20 feet in height and
spread. Like Snowcone®, it
resists twig dieback, but has larger dark green leaves and
a broader, more traditional form. Though delicate-looking, both cultivars are quite pest and trouble-free.
