4 4 Burgundy Hearts Redbud ® Cercis canadensis ‘Greswan’ PP19654 The attention-grabbing, heart-shaped foliage of Burgundy Hearts® Redbud is a sweetheart in the landscape all season long. Extra-large wine-red leaves are a perfect heart shape and resemble “hanging hearts”. They retain the attractive, deep coloration from the emergence of shimmering new growth in the spring, throughout the summer and through the end of the season. Appearing before the leaves in early spring (March-April), myriads of showy rosy-purple, pea-shaped flowers attract bees and humming birds. Cut branches make good cut flowers and may be forced indoors for earlier bloom. Large Burgundy Hearts® Redbud leaves have proved much more resistant to summer leaf scorch than older maroon-leaved cultivars such as “Forest Pansy”. Gardeners and the landscape industry will find this Garden Debut® introduction to be a sweet improvement. Characteristics: Sizeable, burgundy-red heart shaped leaves, excellent color retention in summer through autumn, a fast growth rate and native resistance to pests and diseases make this small native tree a sweetheart. Flowers: Rosy-purple sweet pea like flowers up and down branches and trunks in early spring.
