Seaflowers
Nursery
Welcome to my Seaflowers Nursery Catalogue.
(Last updated 11/10/2016)
My lifetime interest in plants, and in particular growing plants from seed, has led me
to set up my own small nursery. The plants I grow are mostly perennials, with many
being rare and unusual. I also have a large collection of Salvias, which I am steadily
propagating and adding to. Plants are grown from seed, cuttings, or by division, and
frequently include varieties that are useful nectar sources for beneficial insects. At
certain times of the year I may also offer various rare and special bulbs.
Some varieties are in short supply, but there are many that I have plenty of. Larger
orders and quantities may be available for some plants – please ask.
Mail order terms and conditions
To order please email me via the “contact form” and I can then reply direct to your
email. This is my preferred form of contact, as I run my business from home and
have a young family. You are welcome to include a few alternatives, as some plants
are in very short supply or sell out quickly.
Please note, for the mail order plants in this list there is a minimum order of 3
plants.
All orders are sent via Fastways courier. I will only send plants on Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday. Post office box numbers are not suitable for couriers to use, so
please use a street or rural address. All rural deliveries have an extra charge –
please note that many small towns are now considered a rural delivery.
Freight charges for sending one carton of plants (up to 15 plants per carton):

An easy-to-grow perennial that produces an absolute abundance of beautiful bright

Cuphea – Pink
NEW
12cm pot $7.00, or 3 for $18.00

garden plant I thought I would offer it. An easy low-growing bushy shrub, with small
narrow green leaves. Smothers itself with masses of two-toned pink flowers from
spring through to autumn. An absolute haven for bees on warm days. 60cm x 60cm.
Daucus carota ‘Purple Kisses’
NEW
9cm pot $6.00, or 3 for $16.00
(I think this is probably identical to ‘Dara’, and every bit as beautiful.) A stunning
form of ornamental carrot and as with most umbellifers, a favourite plant for
pollinators in the garden. Typical fine, ferny green leaves give rise to plentiful stems
of umbels in shades of white, pink and burgundy which create a frothy feature in the
garden. Fabulous for picking. 90cm x 40cm.

(Carthusian pink). An ideal statement plant for a gravel or rock garden, or well

them as well. 80-100cm x 60-80cm.
Erigeron multiradiatus
9cm pot $6.00, or 3 for $16.00
This is a favourite summer-flowering perennial which I have had for many years.
Forms a low clump of mid-green, slightly spoon-shaped leaves. Masses of mediumsized lavender daisies with golden-yellow centres are held on short stems just above
the foliage. Never seems to set seed, so propagation is by division only. Prefers full
sun. An excellent performer ideal for the front of the border. 20-25cm x 30cm.
Francoa sonchifolia
NEW
9cm pot $6.00, or 3 for $16.00
(Bridal wreath). Forms a lovely clump of attractive green leaves with scalloped
edges. Vertical spikes of soft pink flowers in summer, each petal marked with a
darker blotch. Grows best in dappled shade or a spot where it gets only half a day of
sun as it dislikes too much heat. Hardy perennial. 40-60cm x 30-40cm.
Geranium maderense alba
SOLD OUT
The hard-to-find and really stunning white-flowered form of the Madeira Cranesbill,
this biennial can take two years to come into flower. Forms a huge clump of
beautiful soft, deep green, finely divided leaves. Once flowering size has been
reached, a large flower head forms in the centre, carrying masses of upward-facing
white flowers. A very striking plant, and very easy to establish. Happy almost
anywhere – sun or part shade. Will set seed and die after flowering, but seedlings
will pop up later. Fully grown size is 150cm x 150cm.

(Sweet rocket; Dame’s rocket). This is a lovely mixture of white, lilac and purple

flowers in summer. Hardy perennial that can be biennial. 70-90cm x 50-60cm.
Heuchera americana ssp. hirsuticaulis
9cm pot $6.00, or 3 for $16.00
A lovely plant for a woodland or shady area of the garden, providing large clumps of
lush green leaves with scalloped edges all year round. In late spring fairly
inconspicuous flowers are borne on tall stems, but there are plenty of them, creating
a haze of pale green above the foliage. 30-60cm x 40cm.
Leucanthemum x superbum ‘Shaggy’ NEW
12cm pot $7.00, or 3 for $18.00
This plant has proved to be exceptional in my garden, flowering from early summer
right through into winter. Clumps of narrow green leaves with toothed edges, and
plenty of stems carrying large, narrow-petalled shaggy, pure white flower heads.
Highly recommended, tough and hardy, and an excellent cutflower too. 75cm x 40cm
Lupin – Russell hybrids
$5.00 each, or any 3 for $12.00
Ideal for creating bold statements in the garden, these hardy perennials will flower
best from their 2nd year on, and grow particularly well in cooler areas. Remove the
seed heads before they ripen to prolong the life of the plant. Individual plants of
three separate hybrids – choose one colour or all three  (9cm pots)
 Noble Maiden (creamy-white)
 My Castle (vibrant red)
 Chandelier (golden yellow)
 Also very limited quantity of ‘The Governor’ (blue & white)
and ‘La Chatelaine’ (pink & white) available – please ask
Montanoa bipinnatifida
SOLD OUT
(Mexican tree daisy). This is an amazing plant ideal for a warm sheltered spot as it
is frost tender and dislikes strong winds. Makes a large, upright shrub, with long
woody stems 8-10 foot high, and large dissected grey-green leaves. In early winter it
becomes slightly more sprawling as it produces masses of large pure-white daisies
with yellow centres. An ideal nectar source for monarch butterflies on sunny winter
days. In frost-free areas, the seedheads are a gorgeous lime-green and ideal for
floral arrangements. Prune in late spring. Only very few available at present.
Nepeta tuberosa
9cm pot $6.00, or 3 for $16.00
One of the stand-out plants in my summer garden, this has always drawn lots of
comment as it does not resemble a ‘normal’ catmint. Soft, furry grey leaves with
serrated edges. In midsummer produces many upright spikes of tightly packed
mauve flowers with dark purple bracts. A perennial from the Mediterranean, this
Nepeta produces a tuber similar to a Dahlia in order to survive drought. Dormant in
winter, and also in times of prolonged drought. Full sun. 30-60cm x 50cm.
Penstemon ‘Hidcote Pink’
12cm pot $7.00, or 3 for $18.00
A reliable performer in the garden, this vigorous hybrid forms a tall, bushy clump of
long, fresh green leaves and then upright spikes bearing masses of long-tubed pink
flowers, the paler inside of each flower being veined with dark pink. Flowers over a
long period and will repeat bloom if deadheaded. Full sun. 60-75cm x 45cm.

(Russian sage) A fully hardy perennial that loves summer heat and is ideal for hot,
dry parts of the garden. Many upright stems of silvery green leaves with deeply
toothed edges, deciduous during winter. Clouds of brilliant lavender-blue flowers
over a long period in summer. A haven for bees and butterflies. 1.5m x 60cm.
Potentilla atrosanguinea
SOLD OUT
(Himalayan cinquefoil). Mounds of lovely fresh green leaves, reminiscent of
strawberry foliage. Sprays of bright red saucer-shaped flowers appear in early to
mid summer. Full sun to part shade, and good drainage. 30cm x 30cm.
Potentilla rupestris
9cm pot $6.00, or 3 for $16.00
A dainty species with low clumps of attractive feathery foliage, above which rise lots
of elegant, branched stems carrying yellow-centred pure white flowers to 2.5cm
across. Lovely in the front of the border. The leaves are used in parts of Russia and
Siberia as a tea, although I haven’t tried this yet! 30-40cm x 30-40cm.
Rudbeckia maxima
NEW STOCK
FEW ONLY
9cm pot $6.00
An interesting plant for the foliage alone, this is very different to the usual Rudbeckia
species. Makes a clump of large, leathery, blue-green leaves. In mid summer bears
tall spikes of yellow flowers with drooping petals, each with a black cone in the
centre. Very striking and unusual, great for butterflies and other insects.
160cm-2m high, 90cm across.
Salvia broussonetii
12cm pot $7.00, or 3 for $18.00
A fairly stout perennial from the Canary Islands, forming clumps of large, attractive
and aromatic green leaves, with wavy edges and slightly sticky and hairy to touch.
Short spikes of white flowers in summer. Prefers full sun and good drainage. 90cm x
90cm.
Salvia involucrata ‘Bethellii’
NEW STOCK
1 litre pot $8.00, or 3 for $21.00
(Roseleaf sage). This is an excellent feature plant for the back of the border, or
amongst other shrubby species – looks great with contrasting colours like Salvia
Mexicana ‘Limelight’. Grey-green leaves, soft to touch, and spikes of large, tubular,
dark pink flowers from late summer. Long flowering and does best in a semi-shaded
spot. Can be used to good effect as a hedge, trimmed on the sides and left to flower
along the top with reasonably good soil. 1-1.4m x 1m.
Salvia mexicana ‘Limelight’
FEW ONLY
1 litre pot $8.00
A fantastic addition to any garden, this shrubby perennial has furry grey-green
leaves and large purple-blue flowers with a lime green corolla, which create a
stunning contrast. Flowering can be from summer through into winter. Will tolerate
light frost. Only prune by 1/3 to 1/2 to maintain bushy growth. Hard pruning may kill
the plant.
Salvia moorcroftiana
NEW
FEW ONLY
1 litre pot $8.00
A very hardy herbaceous perennial from the Himalayas. Large basal clumps of
slightly crinkly green leaves, lightly covered in downy white hairs. Branched spikes
of many pale lilac to almost white flowers appear in early summer. Watch the leaves
for snail damage when young, but otherwise easy to maintain in normal garden soil
with good drainage. Full sun. 90-120cm x 60cm.
Salvia ‘Mulberry Jam’
NEW
12cm pot $7.00
This is a pretty cultivar which I find useful in amongst roses or other taller perennials
and grasses, where the slender dark stems can wave around in the breeze.
Particularly effective paired with similar colours. Upright stems are topped with
elegant bright pink flowers and darker calyces. Flowers appear off and on over a
long period throughout summer and autumn. Full sun. 80-10cm x 40-50cm.

A lovely plant which forms a (non-invasive) tuber under the ground, similar to a
Dahlia but not as big. Clumps of slightly fuzzy green leaves, and spires of beautiful,
very large flowers. Flowering occurs at any time from early summer through to
autumn, and will repeat flower if dead-headed. Reasonably frost tender but will reshoot from the tuber in spring once the soil warms up. 60-70cm x 30cm. Full sun.
Good-sized tubers on these 2nd year plants.
Choose from either:
‘Cambridge Blue’ beautiful sky-blue flowers
‘Pink Ice’
lovely soft pink flowers

(Arrow leaf sage). A herbaceous, slightly shrubby perennial with soft light green
arrow-shaped leaves and woody black stems carrying spreading inflorescences of
gorgeous bright royal blue flowers. Flowers continue to appear all summer long.

areas leave until spring. 1m x 1m.
Salvia splendens ‘Van Houttei’
Few Only
9cm pot $6.00
(syn. ‘Alan’s Maroon’). A very popular, frost tender perennial that forms a bushy
plant 1m to 1.2m high, with woody stems and plenty of lovely smooth green leaves.
Covers itself in gorgeous deep maroon flower spikes, with calyces of the same
colour, from early summer right through to autumn. Very showy, but does best in a
partly shaded area, free draining soils, mulched, and with regular water.
Salvia viscosa
12cm pot $7.00, or 3 for $18.00
This is a lovely plant ideal for creating soft contrasts with other plants, particularly
those with lime green or white flowers or foliage. Clumps of softly hairy, rounded
mid-green leaves, with slightly wavy edges. Upright, branched stems carry many
whorls of small deep burgundy-red flowers in mid-summer, creating an airy cloud of
dark pink. Self sows a little. Full sun or part shade, not fussy. 60-80cm x 40cm.
Salvia ‘Wendy’s Wish’
NEW
12cm pot $7.00, or 3 for $18.00
An exceptional lower growing shrubby perennial with glossy dark green leaves, and
almost continuous spikes of large, long-tubed rich pink flowers from spring through to
winter. Trim back lightly every so often to keep the bush in shape. Full sun to part
shade, not hardy to heavy frosts. 60-80cm x 60-80cm.

Solidago rugosa ‘Fireworks’
NEW STOCK
12 cm pot $7.00, or 3 for $18.00
A very striking clump-forming perennial, ideal for planting with Asters, grasses and

are sent up and out and look like an explosion of fireworks cascading out into the
surrounding plants. Full sun. 80-100cm x 75cm.
Telekia speciosa
1 litre pot $8.00, or 3 for $21.00
(Giant heartleaf oxeye). This is a bold perennial that makes a statement with its very
large leaves and big, bright yellow daisies, with thin ray florets. A useful cutflower, it
is best cut back to ground level after flowering, when it will put up a new lot of the
beautiful big leaves. If the attractive fuzzy seedheads are left to stand over winter
they do provide food for all the finches, but it will apparently self sow quite readily,
and as it’s such a large plant this could be interesting in smaller gardens! Part shade
to full sun in cooler areas. Clumps will eventually grow to 1.3-1.8m x 1m.
Thalictrum kiusianum
9cm pot $6.00
(Dwarf meadow-rue). A delightful little dwarf species ideal for a shaded woodland
area. Forms a mound of delicate-looking lacy foliage, with masses of pretty lilac-pink

dies down, or try it in a pot in the shade with regular summer watering. 20cm x 30cm.
Verbascum olympicum

(Greek mullein). A truly impressive species which is ideal as a feature plant in open,
dry areas in full sun. Low-growing, evergreen clumps of large, felted grey leaves are
followed by an upright candelabra of bright golden-yellow flowers, which, as with all
Verbascum species, are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators. Drought
tolerant, short-lived perennial. Approx. size at flowering 1.5-2m H x 60cm W.

Veronica spicata ‘Blue Shades’
NEW
