Australian Native Plants Fact Sheet Australian Teak or Flinders Ash Flindersia australis Family: Rutaceae Evergreen rainforest tree 20 – 40 m. Photos: http://www.anbg.gov.au/ Distribution: Dry rainforest, eucalypt forest at low altitudes in NSW and Queensland. Description: The leaves are glossy green with paler underside. It produces panicles of cream white flowers in spring and summer. The fruit are woody capsules with short prickles. Larger trees have buttressed roots. Propagation: Seeds are papery and germinate readily when fresh (about a week). Seed can be stored for a long period in the fridge, still retaining good viability. Habitat: A hardy tree, adapts to different soil types, part shade or full sun. Uses: Timber is used for flooring, boat building and outdoor furniture. Bird and butterfly attracting tree. Fire retardant.
