Chinese Pistachio Pistacia chinensis Description The Chinese Pistachio is a small deciduous tree and when grown as a street tree will reach a height of approximately 5-7 metres. This species is well known for its extremely fine glossy green leaves consisting of up to 10 pairs of leaflets, which in autumn turn a bright crimson colour. The inconspicuous flowers that branch out into clusters are followed in summer by small red spherical seed pods that turn blue in autumn, and attract birds. This species prefers well drained sites and can grow in dry and compacted locations. This species is an excellent street tree and is well suited to Adelaide's climate. This tree species is native to central western China. Leaves are small and dark green changing to yellow to orange in autumn. New foliage begins to appear in September. Flowers have crinkled petals which appear from January to April and can last for up to three months. The flower colours vary from white, pink, rose, mauve and crimson. The Crepe Myrtle is an ideal small tree for ornamental and street tree planting. This species is native to China, Korea and Japan.
