Residential Architect is a magazine of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The other 2013 Leadership Award recipients are Craig Steely, Craig Steely Architecture - Top Firm, and Katherine Hogan, Assoc AIA, and Vincent Petrarca, Tonic Design | Tonic Construction - Rising Star. George and his wife, Kim, are currently attending the 2013 Reinvention Conference, “Designing for Resilience” in San Francisco, CA. The conference is from October 8-11, 2013 and the Leadership Awards Luncheon will take place on Thursday, October 10. George Suyama, FAIA, is the Founding Principal of Suyama Peterson Deguchi, an architecture firm in Seattle, Washington. Two of George’s most notable projects include Broadmoor Residence (Seattle WA, 2005) and Fauntleroy Residence (Seattle WA, 2003); both projects received AIA Pacific Northwest Honor Awards and AIA Seattle Honor Awards. George loves to collect antiques and handcrafted artifacts, driftwood, shells and other objects. His appreciation of craftsmanship, simplicity and nature informs all of his designs whether they are for private residences, art galleries or theatre renovations. “Our goal is to create an ambiance of place,” says George. In recognition of his design excellence and contributions to the profession, he received the AIA Seattle Medal of Honor (2009) and is a member of the American Institute of Architects’ College of Fellows. Suyama Peterson Deguchi’s current projects include private residences in the Seattle area, Palo Alto, CA and Sun Valley, ID.
