Clicking Delete will delete any assignment you have checked. The selected instruction will not be
deleted until you click Save. If you select an assignment that already has student results, that
assignment will be archived.
Clicking Cancel will discard any changes you may have made on this screen. Clicking Save will save any
changes.
At the Assignment level
Changes made at the assignment level affect all students in the class that have
been assigned that instruction. The changes do not take effect until you click
Save.
Tip: If View is set to
Current Assignments, this
screen will not display
completed assignments.
Select All Assignments or
Completed Assignments
instead.

The View drop-down list allows you to view assignments by All
Assignments, Current Assignments (the default view), Inactive
Assignments, Completed Assignments, or Deleted.

You can select an assignment by putting a check in the box before the
name of the assignment. Clicking the box in the header bar selects all assignments.

You can delete an assignment by checking the checkbox beside the assignment and clicking the
Delete button at the bottom of the screen.

Clicking on an underlined assignment name opens the Instruction Details screen. From there,
you can receive summary information about the instruction. For example, which programs or
subjects the instruction contains.

If there is a Project for the assignment, an underlined capital P appears next to the Customize
link. Clicking this link opens the View Projects screen. From there, you can assign a grade to
each student’s project.

Clicking on an underlined Customize link opens the Class Assignment Status screen. From there
you can view or modify the status of the classes’ assignment and view a summary of their
results. You can also set the Teacher Intervention level for this instruction; see Class Assignment
Status, Intervention Level.

The Status list allows you to manage the classes’ status for the assignment. The options are
Current, Completed, or Inactive.

Current indicates that the assignment is available to be worked on by students. If at least one student in
an assignment has a status of Assigned, the status of the classes’ assignment is Current.
What happens to a student’s assignment status when the class status is changed to
Current?

When a teacher changes the class assignment status from Completed to Current:

A student who has completed all their work remains Completed.

A student who has completed part of the assignment, but whose status has been
marked Completed will change to Assigned.

A student with the status of Skipped changes to Assigned.

When a teacher changes the class assignment status from Inactive to Current, only
students with work still to be done will be changed to Assigned.
Completed indicates that the class is finished with this assignment and it is unavailable to students. The
assignment’s status changes to completed when all students have completed all work. A teacher can
also change the status to Completed even if students have not finished.
What happens to a student’s assignment status when the class status is changed to
Completed?

When a teacher changes the class assignment status from Assigned to Completed:

A student who has completed all their work remains Completed.

A student whose status is Assigned will change to Completed.

A student with the status of Skipped remains Skipped.

When a teacher changes the class assignment status from Inactive to Completed,
the status for all students will remain unchanged.
Note: If all students complete all work on an assignment, the assignment’s status changes to
completed and is grayed out. Because all work has been completed, the teacher cannot change
an assignment’s status until they reassign work from a student’s Customize link. See At the
Student level, below.
Inactive status is used to suspend work on an assignment. The assignment will be unavailable to
students when marked Inactive.

What happens to a student’s assignment status when the class status is changed to
Inactive?

When a teacher changes the class assignment status from Assigned to Inactive:

A student who has completed all their work remains Completed.

A student whose status is Assigned will change to Skipped.

A student with the status of Skipped remains Skipped.

When a teacher changes the class assignment status from Completed to Inactive,
the status for all students will remain unchanged.
Selecting Deleted will remove the assignment from this screen. The assignment
can still be viewed using the Deleted View. If there is no student time on task
when the status is changed to Deleted, the Assignment is deleted. Assignments
with work done on them can be reassigned by changing the status.


Tip: If a teacher
prefers that the class
focus on certain
assignments this
week. Changing the
status of an
assignment to inactive
prevents it from
appearing in the
student’s assignment
listing.
Quiz Avg is the average of each student’s most recent attempt at each
quiz. If the quiz average is below mastery, the score is displayed in red.
Activities Remaining is not calculated at the class assignment level. It is
calculated at the Student Assignment level only.
Total Time is the total amount of time the students have spent on all
work for the assignment.
Mode toggles between Instructional and Manual. In instructional mode, students progress
through their assignments in the order in which the assignment was prescribed. Instructional
mode is the default for a new assignment. In Manual mode, students can progress through the
assignments in any order. They can repeat activities and quizzes if they like.
If you change the mode at the assignment level, the mode of the students in the assignment is
also changed.
The assignment displays the “I” at this level as long as there is at least one student still in
instructional mode.
% Mastery is the cut score for the assignment. Classworks default mastery of 70% can be
changed by clicking in the % Mastery column and entering a new value. Acceptable values are 0100%. If a value greater than 100 is entered, the percentage reverts to the previous score.
If you change the % Mastery at the assignment level, the mastery of the students in the
assignment is also changed.
Date Assigned is the most recent date on which this instruction was assigned. For example,
Assignment A was assigned on 9/9/09 but was later marked Skipped. On 4/10/10, it was marked
Current. The Date Assigned will be 4/10/10.
At the Student level
Each of the measures above is for the class as a whole. Each assignment can be expanded to display the
students to whom it was assigned and their individual metrics. This allows you to turn an individual
student’s assignments on or off or to change an individual Mastery percentage. Changes made at the
student level affect only that student. The changes do not take effect until you click Save.

Clicking on an underlined student name opens the Edit User screen for that student. From there, you
can view student information, run a Comprehensive Student report or enter a Student Observation.
The only field that can be edited by a teacher is the student’s password.
If there is a Project that goes with an assignment, an underlined capital P appears next to the Customize
link. Clicking this link opens the View Projects screen. From there, you can view the students’ progress
on projects and grade them.
A star beside the Customize link indicates that the student has
earned a student incentive achievement. When a student first earns
an achievement, the star is gold. Clicking on the star opens the
student’s My Trophy Room screen. This screen displays a student’s
achievements. See, My Trophy Room, below, for more information.
Clicking on an underlined Customize link opens the Student Assignments Status screen on the Units tab.
From there, you can view or modify the status of this student’s assignment at the unit and activity level.
You can also change the student’s score on individual activities.
The Status list allows you to manage the student’s status for the assignment. The options are Assigned,
Completed, or Skipped.

Assigned is for assignments that students are still working on. If at least
one student in an assignment has a status of Assigned, the status of the
classes’ assignment is Current.
Tip: If a student’s
assignment status is
Completed or Skipped,
the number of activities
remaining is displayed
as a dash, “-”.

Completed indicates that the student is finished with this assignment
and that no more work is to be done. If one student has a status of
Completed and no other student has work assigned, the status of the
classes’ assignment is Completed.

Skipped is used to suspend work on an assignment. If all students have a status of Skipped, the
status of the classes’ assignment is Inactive.
Note: If a student has no units left to work in an assignment, the assignment’s status becomes grayed
out. You cannot change the assignment’s status until you reassign work from the student’s Customize
link.
Quiz Avg is the average of the student’s most recent attempt at each quiz. If the quiz average is below
mastery, the score is displayed in red.
Activities Remaining is the number of the activities in the assignment the student has left to complete.
Total Time is the total amount of time the student has spent on all work for the assignment.
The Mode button toggles between Instructional and Manual.

changes you made.
My Trophy Room
As students work in Classworks, they earn
incentives based on how much time they
spend on activities and how well they score.
As each incentive is earned, they are
displayed in the student’s Trophy Room.
There are two types of incentives, badges and
characters.
Badges
Badges are earned based on time spent in
Classworks activities. For each 150 minutes
time on task in each subject, a student will
earn a silver badge. Once the student has
earned 5 Silver Badges (750 minutes time on
task) they receive a Gold Badge and the silver badge display is reset to 0.
Time on task is only counted for instructional activities, not assessments. Time is tracked separately for
each subject.
Characters
When 150 minutes time on task is achieved AND the
overall unit scores average is 70% or greater, a
character and title is unlocked. If the student scores
below 70%, they still receive the silver badge - but no
character. Once 150 minutes time on task is reached,
the timer begins on the next 150 minutes.
The teacher will be notified of a student’s
achievements by a gold star appearing beside the
student’s name on the Class Assignments screen.
Clicking on the star opens the My Trophy Room screen. This screen displays the student’s achievements.

Once a gold star has been clicked, it turns silver. It will turn gold again when another certificate has been
earned.
Clicking on a gold badge opens a certificate
that can be printed for the student. The gold
badges are displayed on the trophy shelf and
remain throughout the school year.
Badges and characters are separate rewards.
The 750 minute reset only applies to badges.
Characters that they have already unlocked
remain and they can continue to try to earn
the remaining characters during each
additional 150 min segment.
Once a student has unlocked all five
characters for each subject, they will receive
a trophy in their Trophy Room for having
unlocked all five, the earned characters will disappear, and the student begins earning the characters
over again. The trophy has a number that displays how many times the student has earned all five
characters.
A student will retain their time on task even if a teacher deletes an assignment or class.
The student incentive program covers grades K-8 and is enabled by default. The program can be turned
on or off from the Administration tab, the Utilities sub-tab under the School Customize section.
