WHAT IS ALCOHOL? • Alcohol is a drug • Most widely abused drug in the United States HOW DOES ALCOHOL AFFECT THE BODY? • Alcohol is a depressant – once it reaches the brain’s activity, it slows the body’s processes down. • It is absorbed through the walls of the stomach and intestines, directly into the blood stream. • Once in the blood stream, alcohol travels to the brain.
