How did rivers influence the growth of
civilization in Mesopotamia?
Include the following: flooding, irrigation, trade
routes.
The Tigris and Euphrates rivers made
civilization in Mesopotamia possible. When it
rained in the mountains the rivers flooded. As
the rivers flow down the mountains they pick
up more dirt and that dirt spins around at it
goes. The water overflows onto the floodplain
leaving behind fertile soil. This is where the
Mesopotamians grew crops. If they were able
to get more than enough or a surplus, because
of irrigation then specialization can occur.
Eventually they are able to use the rivers as
trade routes and get more items they need to
survive. Without all of this they cannot
survive.
