Infectious Diseases S.O.P
Rationale
This policy aims to promote the good health of all pupils in school, by ensuring
that the spread of infectious diseases is limited.

Guidelines:
1. Pupils who are sick at school are sent to a school first aider, who will
assess whether in the school’s opinion the pupil is well enough to be in
school or not.
2. If it is decided that a pupil is not well enough to be in school, then
parents will be contacted and asked to collect the child as soon as
possible.
3. Where a pupil is suspected of having an infectious disease, then the
school will follow the infectious disease guidance from the Health
Authority, in advising parents about whether or not a pupil should be in
school. If a pupil in school becomes poorly, and is suspected of having
an infectious disease, the pupil will be immediately removed from
contact with other children and parents contacted. Pupils will be
supervised by the school office staff until collected.
4. The school will contact the Health Authority, as advised by the
infectious disease guidance, if pupils are suspected of having a
notifiable disease.
Conclusion
Guidance through this policy should ensure that any pupil who comes to
school with an infectious disease is cared for appropriately and sent home for
the protection of other pupils. It should also ensure that parents are given
advice according to Health Authority guidelines, when they have concerns that
their child has an infectious disease. Pupils at Markland Hill should be
protected from infectious diseases being spread, through the guidelines in this
policy.
