Respiratory and Circulatory Systems Respiratory System • Takes in oxygen from the air that you breathe. • Lungs are the main structures in this system. Respiratory System • Air enters your body through the nose or mouth , moves down your throat and passes through the treachea or windpipe, then to your lungs. Respiratory System • Oxygen is taken into your blood and carbon dioxide leaves your blood. • You diaphragm lies below the lungs. The diaphragm and muscles around it tighten (contract) and relax (extend) to make you breathe in and out. Circulatory system • Carries oxygen, nutrients, and waste throughout the body • Made up of the heart, blood vessels, and blood Circulatory System • The heart is the center of this system, it pumps blood through blood vessels called arteries. • The hear is also called the cardiovascular muscle. Circulatory System • Blood moves from arteries into capillaries. • In the capillaries oxygen and nutrients move from the blood to the body’s cells • Blood then moves through veins back to the heart, carrying carbon dioxide in it. Circulatory System • The circulatory system also works directly with the respiratory and digestive systems Circulatory System • Respiratory system gives oxygen and the circulatory system takes the oxygen to other cells. • Digestive system breaks down nutrients in food and the circulatory system carries the nutrients to cells in the body.
