ENDSTATION THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES THE 2010 BLUE
RIDGE SUMMER THEATRE FESTIVAL SEASON
Sweet Briar, VA (8/26/09) – Endstation Theatre Company has announced its 2010 Blue
Ridge Summer Theatre Festival Season. The first show, The Complete Works of
Shakespeare: Abridged, will tour local schools from May 24-28, followed by a twoweekend run at Lynchburg’s Renaissance Theatre, June 4-13. For the second show of
the season, Endstation will produce its first theatre production/event for young
audiences, Alice in Wonderland, July 1-17 in Sweet Briar College’s Babcock Auditorium.
In keeping with their tradition of site-specific outdoor theatre, Endstation will be
offering Shakespeare’s Hamlet, July 16-25, against the background of an old dairy barn
on the scenic Sweet Briar College campus.
"Our 2009 season was such an exciting experience as we expanded the season to three
shows,” says Endstation Artist Director and Amherst native, Geoffrey Kershner. “In
2010 we continue to expand our growth with performances in area schools and our first
show for young audiences. Our Hamlet, set in the Civil War era, will also be our most
ambitious outdoor show yet."
Endstation has also introduced a new program, A Playwrights’ Initiative, which will occur
in conjunction of the Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival. Playwrights from around the
country will participate in a short series of writing intensives, and will then show their
work in public performances. Dates and times for these performances are still to come.
The Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival is produced each year by the Endstation
Theatre Company and is hosted by Sweet Briar College. The Endstation Theatre
Company is the resident theatre company of Sweet Briar College, and is dedicated to
the exploration and promotion of the theatre arts in Central Virginia. Endstation creates
unique theatrical experiences by heightening the theatrical convention itself - every
Endstation production explores and defines the relationship between live theatre and
the audience.
