‘Communities Celebrate!’ theatre project Freedom Studios are a Bradford based theatre company, passionate about new writing, new talent and making theatre in non-traditional spaces for diverse audiences. Our mission is to connect people and communities through theatre making and storytelling. We are teaming up with with Ravenscliffe Gateway centre for a Celebrate! project, bringing together groups of adults from Ravenscliffe and Thorpe Edge to create a community play. We’re looking for an experienced community workshop facilitator to deliver a programme of workshops and oversee the production. We need someone who can offer the following: Skill session facilitation Teaching drama skills to a group of adults with mixed abilities/experience Using ice-breakers, games, activities to encourage participants to get to know each other and feel confident working together as a group Creating a flexible framework that enables participants to progress though drama based activities, ultimately helping them devise and perform a community play about their local communities Working with the group and partner organisations to design and deliver a celebratory showcase performance (possibly twice – once at each community centre) We need someone with the following skills/experience: ● Experience of facilitation and leading drama based sessions ● Experience of working with community groups. A belief in their potential and the ability to build rapport with them, as well as between them ● Enthusiastic about motivating participants to develop then use their skills to interact with their communities ● Flexible, with a creative and constructive approach to developing a community production ● Ability to work collaboratively to achieve successful results ● A willingness to take responsibility for delivering a challenging but safe, and inclusive experience for all participants We also encourage applications from people who are from, or living in Bradford, with a knowledge of the city. Availability & Fees The 2-3 hour sessions will run for 16 weeks, preferably on Thursdays during the day, starting mid-April, with an additional two days in July/August for performances (dates TBC). We will pay a rate of £150 per session. We anticipate that there will be planning, preparation and script development work outside of delivery hours, particularly in the run up to the shows, and the fee reflects additional work required. A small budget will be available for costumes, props and resources. This work is offered on a short-term freelance contract. You will be responsible for your own Tax and National Insurance contributions, though you will be covered by Freedom Studios’ Public Liability Insurance.
