ROMAN ART
Purposeful vs. Enjoyable
• All art is a creative expression of an idea or
belief.
• Some art serves a purpose.
• Other art is created simply to enjoy.
• On the lines to the right, write down your
favorite song and movie.
• In your groups, determine if your song or
movie is purposeful or enjoyable.

• Most Roman
architecture was made
possible because of the
arch.
• The keystone in the
middle holds all of the
weight and makes for a
stronger support.

• Aqueducts, like the
one to the left, was an
ancient water
pipeline.
• Aqueducts were used
all over the Roman
Empire to bring fresh
water to its citizens.
Purposeful:
Concrete
• Many of the Roman
buildings and roads
were made possible
because of the
creation of concrete.
• To the right is the
Pantheon, one of the
Roman marvels, is
made of concrete.
Enjoyable:
Art
