WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION SENSORS – WSD1 The wind speed section of the sensor consists of a low-inertia ABS cup assembly for fast response mounted on a dual ballrace-supported stainless steel shaft. A benefit of this design is the zero power requirement needed for operation. The wind direction component of the sensor consists of a dynamically balanced wind vane operating a triple ballrace supported shaft and microtorque potentiometer with a small deadband of 3o, usually at North. The benefit of this is precise and accurate measurements in all environments. The WSD1 produces a pulse signal output, which means that most modern data capture units are compatible with these sensors with little or no interfacing. There are two mounting systems recommended; the full mast kit or the bracket kit. These options are provided because the WSD1 is a very adaptable instrument can be used in any situation or environment. However, in practice an anemometer rarely stops and very low wind-speeds are able to be detected due to the lowinertia cup assembly. 2To use voltages higher than the RECOMMENDED MAXIMUM, then a series limiting resistor must be included within the circuit.
