In Greek, “Mesopotamia” means “between the rivers”. Located between the TIGRIS [TI-gris] and EUPHRATES [yoo-FRAY-teez] RIVERS, Mesopotamia has also been called “the cradle of civilization” because some of the first civilizations known began here.
