Non-Verbal Communication
Printing module
5th Year Art 2012
How do people communicate?
Do they always communicate through speech alone?
In this module start by brainstorming all the different forms of non verbal communication
you can think of. Think of the meanings of the different gestures.
Now you are going to work in pairs. You are going to take turns modelling and drawing.
Direct the person who is modelling to perform one of the gestures of non-verbal
communication you have decided to visually research through drawings. Keep taking turns
to develop a body of work based on the aspect of non-verbal communication you have
decided to work on. (min. 3 drawing)
Now think of what would happen if the form of non-verbal communication you have
decided to research was restricted. Continue making primary observation drawings from
each other to show this new situation. (min 3 drawings)
Make some additional developments to communicate this idea using collage, photography
and unusual materials if necessary or desirable.
(2 weeks)
Being considerate of composition, use your drawing to create an interesting composition
suitable for lino print and dry point. You drawings must only use line and tone at this stage.
Transfer your drawing to your lino and dry point plates and progress through the cutting
process
