Politicians and generals were able to keep everyone happy and the citizens flourished. When a leader is cruel, incompetent, unfair, or disloyal to the people she/he is leading, it is acceptable to forcibly remove the person from office by whatever means necessary. Cicero is considered the greatest general of Rome. He is admired for his bravery and skill in battle. Agree Disagree Reasons Caesar formed an alliance with Pompey and Crassus. This alliance flourished for decades. After the war in Gaul, Caesar was so powerful that even his friends were jealous and afraid of him. When Caesar crossed the Rubicon River and returned to Rome, this was a legal act and a victory for Rome. Afraid that Caesar would attack him, Pompey and his allies fled Italy because they did not think they had enough troops to defeat Caesar. When Caesar returned to Rome he named himself Dictator for 10 years. Caesar was stabbed to death on March 15, 44 BC. To the Romans, March was called the Ides of March, and before he was killed he was warned to “beware the Ides of March.” Among the attackers who killed Caesar was Romulus, who had been friend and ally of Caesar.
