Everett Tickets on Sale March 26, 2014. Issaquah Run: Everett Run: March 20 – April 27, 2014 May 2 – 25, 2014 ISSAQUAH, WA – After nearly a decade in the making, Village Theatre’s new musical, The Tutor, opens March 20, 2014 in Issaquah. Set to a fun and energetic pop score, The Tutor is a musical comedy filled with family drama, creative angst, and romantic blunders. Eric Ankrim, back from his Broadway acting debut in First Date, will now sport a sharp looking sweater vest for the role of Edmund –the aspiring novelist and tutor. Seventeen year old Issaquah High senior Katie Griffith transitions from KIDSTAGE kid to lead actress as she “plugs in her headphones” to become the college-bound trouble-maker Sweetie. In 2004 The Tutor debuted as part of Village Theatre’s Festival of New Musicals. The bright and witty book and lyrics are by Maryrose Wood; the new music is by Andrew Gerle. Eric Ankrim read the role of Edmund in 2004 and returned in 2005 when The Tutor had a brief run as a Village Original developmental production. Now, almost ten years later, Maryrose, Andrew and Eric are together again for a ten-week, two-city Village Theatre Mainstage run with a full cast, crew and orchestra. Edmund, The Tutor, is the aspiring young novelist who thinks he has discovered the formula for success; slaving over his novel in the morning and tutoring rich kids in the afternoon to pay the bills. When his characters start to develop an attitude and take on a life of their own, Edmund learns that muses can come in the least expected places. His latest “cash cow” student, a sullen 16-year-old named Sweetie from the Upper Eastside, just might have the key to his success. Eric Ankrim recently returned from his 2013 Broadway debut starring as Aaron in First Date. Prior to Broadway he wore his “director hat” for local productions of Trails (Village), Avenue Q and Spring Awakening (Balagan), and Elf (The 5th Avenue). Katie Griffith has performed in countless KIDSTAGE productions and made her Village Theatre Mainstage debut in 2009 as Agnes in Village Theatre’s holiday production of Meet Me in St. Louis. This is Katie’s first leading role in a Village Theatre Mainstage production. Joining Eric Ankrim and Katie Griffith on stage for this hot new musical are Beth DeVries as Sweetie’s mother Esther, Hugh Hastings as Sweetie’s father Richard, Kirsten deLohr Helland in dual roles as Hildigard and Pippi and Matthew Kacergis in the dual roles of Sean and Bo. The Tutor is directed by David Ira Goldstein who recently directed Fiddler on the Roof and Xanadu for Village Theatre. Andrew Gearle is the composer and Maryrose Wood did the book and lyrics. Jessica Low is the choreographer, Jeff Bell is the music director, Scott Fyfe is the scenic designer, Alex Berry is the lighting designer and Kish Finnegan is the costume designer. Paulette Buse stage manages. About Village Theatre Based in Issaquah, WA, with operations in Everett, Village Theatre is a leading producer of musical theatre in the Pacific Northwest.
