ARTHUR NESTROVSKI (Porto Alegre, Brazil, 1959) was named artistic director of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (Osesp), effective January 2010. He graduated in Music at the University of York (England); and he holds a Ph.D. in Music and Literature from Iowa University (USA). From 1992 until 2009, he was a senior music critic for Folha de S.Paulo, and he was also a senior editor at PubliFolha, the newspaper`s publishing branch. A tenured lecturer at the Graduate College of PUC/São Paulo from 1991 to 2005, he is the author of Outras Notas Musicais (2009), Palavra e Sombra (2009) and Três Canções de Tom Jobim (with L. Mammì and L. Tatit, 2004), among other books – including several prize-winning titles for children. He returned to professional work as a guitar player and composer in 2004, and has since played next to Zélia Duncan, Zé Miguel Wisnik, and Tom Zé, among other top Brazilian artists. His solo album Jobim Violão, was released in 2007 and has been reissued twice. Chico Violão (featuring the music of Chico Buarque) will come out in 2010. Other recorded projects include Tudo o Que Gira Parece a Felicidade, with songs and instrumental pieces written for a dance project by Ivaldo Bertazzo and Inês Bogéa. He is the music director for Vila Sésamo (the Brazilian version of Sesame Street), broadcast nationwide by TV Cultura. Over the years, he has been an advisor to several projects and instituitions, including Museu da Língua Portuguesa and Petrobras Cultural.
