Name: Hemophilia
Who:
Origin:
1 in 10,000 people, 80‐90% of whom are males.
inherited disorder, the production of clotting factor VIII or factor IX
is inadequate.
Symptoms: blood doesn't clot, hemorrhages occur at joints
and around muscles. Blood in urine, nose bleeds.
Treatment: transfusion, pooled plasma, may also be treated with desmopressin (DDAVP) to help the body release factor VIII (stored in the lining of blood vessels)
Prognosis:
uncontrolled bleeding can lead to death.
increased risk of blood‐born infections.

1. Sickle­Cell Anemia
who: anyone; majority are people whose genetic background is from an area where
malaria is endemic.
origin:
mutation of the hemoglobin molecule. (HbS)
symptoms:
pain,, changes blood cells into sickle shapes, a spleen damage.

Atherosclerosis
affects: origin:
anyone who has a degenerative disease of the blood vessels (usually ages 40 and up)
smoking and obesity contribute to the risk
some evidence that exposure to toxins (including cigarette smoke) may cause this. More prevalent in people with hypertension. symptoms:
treatment:
prognosis:
chest pain or discomfort, numbness, pain. Some people
may not have any! sometimes dangerous infections
coronary artery bypass surgery, balloon angioplasty
medications (statins), exercising, antioxidants
may develop acute coronary artery disease.
May lead to kidney failure. Can be fatal

Myocardial Infarction
Who: Anyone. Chance increases with age. Most commonly
after 65 and in men
Origin: blood clot, coronary artery disease, smoking
Symptoms: Chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating
dizziness, muscle weakness , nausea, vomiting
Treatment:
O2 therapy, Aspirin, Nitroglycerin, morphine
Prognosis:
higher chance for another heart attack, may
have heart failure, and abnormal heart rhythm.
