The Promised Messiah’s services to Islam
(Surah al Fath 48:29)
This verse contains a great prophecy and glad tiding, that Allah will cause this religion, Islam, to
prevail over all other religions. It is also widely known and accepted by Muslims (and in particular,
Qur’an commentators) that the final and ultimate victory of Islam, as mentioned in this verse will
come at the advent and at the hands of the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi. And indeed, when
we look at the services of the Promised Messiah for Islam, we see exactly the grand fulfilment of this
remarkable prophecy.
Indeed it was he who was sent by Allah as a Messenger with guidance and the true religion, and
indeed it was he who proved without a shadow of a doubt, the superiority of Islam over all other
religions.
Now to fully understand and witness the services of the Promised Messiah, we must first look at the
prevailing condition of Islam at the time of the Promised Messiah. It was in rapid decline, more so in
British ruled India than anywhere else. On the one hand, the British were sending Christian
missionaries to India and converting many Muslims. On the other hand, Islam was under a violent
attack by Hindus. They were writing articles, books and leaflets in aggressive onslaughts against
Islam, and the Muslims had no one to defend them. The Christians and the Hindus both saw their
opportunity to wipe Islam of the face of the earth. Such was the state of Islam at that time. It was a
true reflection of what the Holy Prophet foretold 1400 years ago:
"There will come a time upon the people when nothing will remain of Islam except its name and
nothing will remain of the Quran except its inscription. Their mosques will be splendidly furnished
but destitute of guidance. Their divines (Ulema, religious leaders) will be the worst people under
the heavens; strife will issue from them and avert back to them."
Even today we can see the word for word fulfilment of this great foresight of the Holy Prophet.
But at such a time, Allah was to raise another Messenger to revive the faith as He revealed to the
Holy Prophet:
In explanation of this verse, the Holy Prophet under Divine guidance placed his hand on Hadhrat
Salman Farsi, a Persian and stated: “If faith were to go up to the Pleiades, a man from among these
would surely find it. (Bukhari).”
If we were to summarise the Promised Messiah’s services to Islam, we could point to two things
mentioned in the Qur’an and Ahadith: That Allah will cause Islam to prevail over all other religions
through the Promised Messiah and that he will bring back faith to the Muslims.
The Promised Messiah delivered a crushing blow to the opponents of Islam with his masterpiece and
greatest monumental work, Braheen – e – Ahmadiyya, which contained 300 irrefutable proofs of
Islam. Indeed they were irrefutable as no one even dared try and disprove them even at the
challenge of the Promised Messiah and at the promise of a reward of 10,000 rupees.
He proved the pureness and uniqueness of the Holy Qur’an and proved that while all other religious
scriptures had been interpolated, it was only the Qur’an which still remained the unchanged literal
Word of God, as it does today and will do so forever Insha’Allah.
Along with this, he wrote many articles and over 80 faith inspiring books in the favour of Islam. Aptly
named, Ruhani Khazain, ‘Spiritual treasure’. Indeed the prophecies relating to the Messiah foretold
of a time where he would distribute wealth but no one would accept it. This spiritual wealth was
widely distributed by the Promised Messiah and still is today but unfortunately many reject this
wealth which is far more valuable and long lasting than any material wealth.
Public debates were held with many religious leaders of different faiths. Christian leaders in
particular became cautious of entering into debates with the Promised Messiah, fully knowing that
he had the superior and irrefutable arguments in the support of Islam.
His lifelong work for the cause of Islam was so unique and powerful, that even his enemies and
opponents testified to his truth, his perfect arguments for Islam and his deep insight and
understanding of Islam as well as all other major religions.
His work received the admiration and praise from the entire Muslim community and Muslim leaders
of the time, most notably from Muhammad Husain of Batala, one of the most prominent Muslim
leaders of the time, who later became one of the worst enemies of the Promised Messiah, he wrote:
“This book, in our opinion [referring to the Braheen-i-Ahmadiyya], is without parallel in our time,
and in view of the circumstances and needs of our time there has not been another one like it in the
entire history of Islam. As for the author, we can say there have been few Muslims, if any, who have
been so constant in their service to Islam, service by purse and pen, by personal character, and by
speech and silence. “
Islam is alive only today because the Promised Messiah came in fulfilment of Allah’s promises and
the Holy Prophet’s blessings and prayers. It was he who provided the Muslims with the irrefutable
arguments to defend their religion with. It was he who crushed the cross and the false doctrines of
Christianity through his pen and his mighty arguments. It was he who truly brought faith back to the
Muslims when it had reached so far that it seemed as if it had gone as far as the Pleiades. And
indeed, it was the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), who
caused Islam to prevail over all other religions. From the brink of darkness and extinction, he
brought Islam back into the light. Not just Ahmadis, but all Muslims have deeply benefitted from the
advent of the Promised Messiah and his tremendous services to Islam, although they do not realise
it yet.
If we look now, there is nothing left of Christianity, nor of any other religion. It is Islam and only
Islam that is the living religion today, and it is due to the outstanding services of the Promised
Messiah that we see Islam prevailing over all other religion today and will continue to do so
Insha’Allah for many centuries to come.
May Allah make it so. Ameen.
