The Wrens Topic/Science Homework (45 mins) Set Friday 1st April Due Wednesday 6th April This term in Science we are exploring ‘Rocks and Soils’. This topic links in well with Ancient Egypt because the Egyptians used different rocks to build their pyramids and sphinxs. sphinxs. We have also found out that sediment is carried in the River Nile too. too. In class we have explored the Rock cycle. We understand that rocks are many, many years old and originate even before humans! We understand that there are 3 main types of rocks – Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic. We are able to sort most rocks into these categories. We looked at Volcanoes too, this is because the hot magma that erupts from these deadly beasts form igneous rocks. This week’s homework is to illicit the children’s understanding so far and explore rocks a little further. All children must: Complete this section Man made or natural rocks? What does man made mean? (The clue is in the name) What does natural rock mean? Sort these rocks into groups depending on whether they were man made or natural rocks.
