Merrill1 Joshua Merrill Ms. Wilson English I Pre AP – Period 1 June 2010 The great concur Julius Cesar was a Roman military and political leader who played a critical role in the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. Julies Caesar was one of the most amazing fingers in history because he created the most powerful empire in history and he was one of the best military leaders that the world has ever seen. Caesar was born in Rome Italy in 100BC. He was known as the father of Spain and was the first emperor of the Roman Empire. As a child Caesar traveled to the Mediterranean island of Rhodes to study oratory. On the way there he was captured by pirates who demanded a ransom of gold to let him live. While messengers were sent for the money, Caesar vowed to hang his captors someday. After his release he assembled a naval force, captured the pirates, and put them to death. The episode illustrates the influence that Caesar wielded even as a private citizen holding no public office. He did not let anyone mess with him he knew that he was special and invincible. On the other hand this showed that he was a cruel man with no mercy. He did not care who he hurt in his way all he saw was his goal. To go agents’ that Even though this was a cruel action it gained him respect by the people that he commanded so that he would have allies in the future when he tries to obtain more power. This started his rise to power and the legendary career. After a year as consul, Caesar was sent to govern a Roman province in Gaul, a region that is now France. From this province he set out to conquer the rest of Gaul, which he accomplished between 58 and 50. This campaign gave Caesar the opportunity to show Merrill2 his great qualities as a leader, an organizer, and a general. He fought alongside his soldiers as they conquered tribe after tribe in Gaul. Caesar also made several raids into Britain and what is now Germany during this time period. He put down the last great Gallic uprising in 52 BC and spent two more years completing the conquest. He showed great leadership his soldiers looked at him as one of their own that respected them and was loyal to them. On the other hand he took people’s homes and slaughtered the insistence that inhabited them it was becoming a repetitive trait that he was brutal on the other hand the people of Rome praised him for his success it was one of the most successful military operations in history. Lastly in 44 BC Caesar was powerful enough to have himself made dictator for life. He planned to use his power to put through many far-reaching and much needed reforms. He thought of himself as a person of high destiny and lived with pomp and ceremony. He had control of the entire Mediterranean world which at that time would make him the most powerful man in the world. Opponents may say he was a cruel and unjust man to his people. He knew that he had power and he wanted to use it. It is believed that He only had power for 4 years up until he was assassinated He reformed the republic in to the first Roman Empire that would grow to encompass the known world To conclude Julius Cesar was one of the greatest leaders in the world because he formed the Roman Empire and the great concur. He was a great leader but harsh and brutal. I think he was probably the greatest figures in history because he changed it to where we might not be here if it had not been for him because he civilized the world only a few people where or have been like him he is the one a lot of history great people look up to or idolize in their life all threw Europe you will find statues of him and monuments but that is not all during his time many advances in the world took place such as how we live with water and food and intertamenint. He Merrill3 planned to use his power to put though many far-reaching and much-needed reforms. He thought of himself as a person of high destiny and lived with pomp and ceremony you could say that he was like a god in his day!
