His diplomatic mission had officially established the United States'

He became the President of provisional government, and refused to give the
government back to the Hawaiians.
Why was the Spanish-American war called “a splendid little war”? It was called the
splendid little war because the ambassador of England wrote to Roosevelt
and said “It's been a splendid little war.”
Why was the war in the Philippines less popular with the American People than the
Spanish-American War had been? They tired of the issue, and wanted to focus on
other issues closer to home.
What were the Fists of Righteous Harmony, or “Boxers,” rebelling against?
They were rebelling against the Chinese government.
What was the point of John Hay's Open Door policy?
The point was to guarantee equal trading rights.
Why was it important to complete the Panama Canal?
They believed that the canal was a strategic center of the most vital

Vanderbilt started a company that transported passengers from New York to
San Francisco. He attempted to take control of Nicaragua.
What were some of the methods by which the united States expanded its economic and
political influence around the world in the late 1800's and early 1900's? How did
economic interests sometimes lead to military action? Cite specific examples.
They provided other countries with military service. It lead to military
action because the military wouldn't leave.
Why did the American consul in Cuba, Fitzhugh Lee, ask to have a battleship sent to
Havana harbor? What was the Cubans' perception of the Maine's presence? Do you
think the United States had a right to station a battleship in the harbor? How might the
Spanish-American war have been avoided through better communication and sensitivity
on all sides? He wanted a battleship to “protect American interests.” To the
Cubans it was a floating American fortress right in their capital. Yes,
because they felt threatened. The could have not pulled out all of those
battleships.
What is the meaning of Teddy Roosevelt's motto “Speak softly, and carry a big stick” in
regard to foreign policy? How did he implement this policy during his presidency? What
do you think of the policy? Is it effective? Is it right? It means that if you tell
somebody to do something, and they don't do it, then you make them. I
think the policy is effective but not right.
