1.
Product Overview
a) The Branch Circuit Power Meter (BCPM) shall include strips of current transformers (CTs) to measure
current on each circuit in a power distribution unit (PDU).
b) The BCPM shall also include inputs for 1/3 V AC CTs to allow measurement of the current on the
incoming mains. In addition, the BCPM shall include inputs to allow measurement of the voltage of the
incoming mains.
c) The BCPM shall store measured values for current at the branch circuit and mains level in registers
located on the device.
d) The BCPM shall perform all calculations for power and energy at the branch circuit and mains level and
store these calculated values in registers located on the device.
2.
Branch Circuit Monitoring
a) The BCPM shall come complete with 4 current transformer (CT) strips of 21 CTs each.
b) The CTs shall be supplied with either 1” or 3/4”centers
c) The CT strips shall be rated for installation and monitoring current up to 100 A.
d) The CT strips shall be factory assembled
e) The CT strips shall connect to the BCPM printed circuit board with a ribbon cable and pin connector
assembly.
1) Ribbon cables lengths up to 20 feet shall be supported.

Mains Monitoring CTs
a) The BCPM shall be enable mains monitoring with 1/3VAC CTs.
b) The BCPM shall have inputs to connect eight 1/3 VAC CTs
c) The BCPM shall monitor two 4-wire (3 phases plus neutral) mains inputs

a) The BCPM shall have a status LED
b) The status LED shall be capable of indicating the following device states:
1) Normal operation
2) Volts or amps over range
3) Device failure
4) Internal error

Measured Values
a) The BCPM shall provide the following voltage values:
1) Voltage L–L per phase
2) Voltage L-L 3-phase average
3) Voltage L–N per-phase
4) Voltage L-N 3-phase average
b) The BCPM shall provide the following current values:
1) Current per phase
2) Current, neutral

e) The BCPM shall provide the following demand values:
1) Present kW demand
2) Maximum kW demand

Accuracy
a) CT strips shall be factory calibrated for each BCPM
b) Mains metering accuracy (excluding mains monitoring CTs)
1) Power and energy accuracy for the mains monitoring inputs shall be accurate to IEC 61036 Class 1
and ANSI C12.1
c) Voltage accuracy shall be 1% of reading from 90 to 277 V, Line to Neutral
d) Branch circuit metering accuracy, including branch circuit CT strips
1) Current accuracy shall be 2% of reading from 0.25 A to 2 A
2) Current accuracy shall be 1% of reading from 2 A to 100 A
3) Power accuracy shall be 3% of reading from 1 A to 100 A, in the range of 0.8 power factor to 1.0
power factor
e) The BCPM shall require no annual re-calibration after installation
7.
Sampling
a) The BCPM shall sample at 2560 Hz.
b) The BCPM shall provide 1.2 second updates in registers.
8.
Non-volatile memory
a) The BCPM shall maintain registers in non-volatile memory for initial configuration and setup
information and alarm levels

b) The BCPM shall include the following registers in non-volatile memory:
1) Manufacturers information, including serial number and firmware revision
2) Configuration and location
3) Demand setup information, including number of sub intervals per demand interval and sub-interval
length
4) Branch CT sizes and Branch breaker sizes
5) Current alarm timer delays and threshold levels for all alarm types
6) Branch and mains alarm status
7) Voltage alarm timers and thresholds
8) Voltage alarm status
9) Mains input energy values
10) Max current demand, per auxiliary phase
11) Maximum auxiliary power total demand
12) Maximum current value, per phase
13) Global alarm counters, for each latching alarm type
14) Energy values, per branch
15) Max power demand, per branch

Alarming

The BCPM shall include both current and voltage alarms
The BCPM shall have setpoint driven alarming capability
Alarm setpoints are determined by the user and may be modified at any time
Alarms include time delays that are set by the user and may be modified at any time
The BCPM shall have alarms for the current level on each of the 84 circuits being monitored as well as
on each phase of the mains input.
The BCPM shall include both latching and non-latching alarm types
The BCPM shall provide counters for latching current alarms
The BCPM shall provide the following alarm levels:
1) Latching Current Alarms: High-High, High, Low, Low-Low, Trip
2) Non-latching Current Alarms: High, Low
3) Latching Voltage Alarms: High, Low
4) Non-Latching Voltage Alarms: High, Low
The BCPM shall provide in global alarm registers for both latching and non-latching alarm status
The BCPM shall provide global alarm registers for most recent alarm channel for both latching and nonlatching alarms

The BCPM shall provide global alarm registers for the total number of channels in latching state and
total number of alarms in non-latching state

Communications
a) The Branch Circuit Monitor shall communicate via Modbus RTU.

The Branch Circuit Monitor shall offer a DIP switch-selectable 2 or 4 wire RS485 connection.
The Branch Circuit Monitor shall offer DIP switch-selectable addressing from 1-247.
The Branch Circuit Monitor shall offer a DIP switch-selectable baud rate of 9600 or 19200, 38400.
The Branch Circuit Power Meter shall offer DIP switch-selectable parity of None, Odd or Even.
The BCPM shall have both transmitting and receiving LEDs to indicate proper communication over the
RS-485 port

Advanced Features
a) The BCPM firmware shall be field upgradeable.
b) The BCPM shall provide a configuration register to allow the user to select the orientation of the CT
strips during installation
c) The BCPM shall support the following CT Strip installation configurations:
1) Top fed
2) Bottom fed
3) Inline sequential
4) Inline odd/even
d) The BCPM shall support single phase, two phase and three phase metering.
