Renaissance Themes:
1. Movement away from Religious to Secular Themes
2. Celebration of the ability of the ‘Individual’ as well as the Human Form / Human Body
3. Awareness and appreciation of Ancient Greece and Rome.
Project Steps:
1. Locate a piece of Renaissance Art
a. Good place to start http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/artists/
i. Browse by century – Renaissance from about 1350-1600
ii. Browse by artist – (KEY ARTISTS: Da Vinci, Jan van Eyck, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian)
b. Other Site: http://www.arthistory-famousartists-paintings.com/RenaissanceArt.html
2. Go through the self-checklist to make sure that your picture contains all of the themes.
3. Copy and Paste your painting into a Blank Document.
4. Write a paragraph that provides justification for why your painting should be considered a piece of
Renaissance art.
Requirements: (15 points)

A paragraph (6 sentences) explaining how your picture meets all three requirements for being a
piece of Renaissance Art.
Important Definitions:
Secular: non-religious, non-spiritual, worldly
Renaissance: a rebirth of art and literature between 1350-1550; including a renewed interest in Ancient
Greece and Rome including their stories, gods, architecture and culture
