Functional Manual Therapy For the Lower Quarter Description: Instructor: This course is the next step in sophistication for the clinician who has taken the usual specialized courses in manual therapy, release, counter strain, visceral, PNF, soft tissue, etc. Alan brings together many elements not usually associated --and he does it in a systematic manor to determine a course of treatment based on a logical evaluation “scan.” Based on this systematic evaluation, an active treatment activity is performed with the patient providing functional control and simultaneously treating joint, muscle, fascia and viscera. The results are quite remarkable. For those just starting to explore other techniques, Alan can save a lot of time, effort, and expense with this one course. For those who have attended other soft tissue courses this course will help to accelerate techniques previously learned. By the end of the course you will have learned a systematic approach to evaluation of the low back, hip, and leg. You’ll learn how to release restrictions in the spine, SI, viscera, fascia, and muscles of the lower quadrant. The Course is heavily devoted to “hands-on “work with Alan personally available to the attendees. Class size is limited: consequently, you should register early Alan Weismantel graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Physical Therapy School in 1967. His early career included proficiency in EMG/NCV studies and the clinical use of manipulation and mobilization techniques. After extensive studies in the United States and Canada, Mr. Weismantel was the third Physical Therapist from the United States to pass the International Federation on Manual Therapy Examination in 1975. In the late 70’s Mr. Weismantel was the first to sponsor Mr. Robin McKenzie on the East Coast and was one of the first McKenzie practitioners. From 1980 to 1988 he attended all courses offered for Physical Therapists at the Osteopathic School of Continuing Education at Michigan State University. On several occasions, Mr. Weismantel assisted Dr. Robert Ward in his presentations of Myofascial Release. After studying Strain / Counterstrain under Dr. Jones, Mr. Weismantel presented courses on Counterstrain Techniques. During the 1990’s he studied Visceral Mobilization Techniques taught by European Osteopaths. Mr. Weismantel is licensed in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Texas. He is a member of the A.P.T.A., Orthopedic and Sports Medicine section and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. The Program: Mr. Weismantel developed a varied approach to evaluation and treatment of muscular skeletal dysfunctions. He integrates techniques learned in his 36 years of studies and clinical experiences. He was in private practice for 25 years. He is president of Functional Manual Therapy. He does consulting and seminars throughout the country. Locate visceral restrictions that are contributing to pain and limitations in the lower quarter. Use resistive muscle tests and passive tests to direct functional treatment. Perform release techniques in the lumbar spine and SI using functional movements. Perform release techniques in the viscera using functional movements. Perform release techniques to the muscles, nerves and fascia of the lower extremities. Locations & Fees: Dates to be announced
