Jupiter By: Anna Elizabeth Warren Position Jupiter is the 5th planet from the sun. It is located between Mars and Saturn. Jupiter is 483,600,000 miles from the sun. Rotation Jupiter takes 9.8 hours to rotate on its own axis. It take Jupiter 4380 days to travel around the sun. Size Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system. Jupiter is 240 lbs in size. The volume of Jupiter is 1.43128×1015 km³ . Gravity On Jupiter you would experience 2.5 more gravity than Earth. . Orbit It takes Jupiter about 11 years to orbit its axis. Though, it takes 1186 years to orbit the sun. Atmosphere Jupiter is 82% hydrogen. 18% helium thick. Most of its atmosphere is molecular compounds, ammonia, methane, molecular hydrogen and water. Temperature At the cloud tops, the temperature of Jupiter is thought to be 145 degrees C. As you descend into the planet, temperatures increase. When the pressure of the atmosphere is about 2.5 times what we have on Earth, the temperatures are about 20 degrees C. Appearance and Composition Jupiter is fully gas, there is no surface. The outer mantle is liquid hydrogen and the inner mantle is liquid metallic hydrogen. At the center of the planet is a molten rock core which is many times bigger and more massive than the entire Earth. Moons and Rings Jupiter has a least 63 moons. The Galilean Moons are 4 of them. The rings of Jupiter are broken into four separate components: halo ring, main ring, Amalthea gossamer ring, and Thebe gossamer ring. Living You can not at all live on Jupiter. One, because its all gas, two it has no surface. Also, the atmosphere is made up of extremely poisonous gases. Also, that the intense gravity on Jupiter would probably squash humans flat. Cool Facts Jupiter's magnetic field is 14 times as strong as Earth. Jupiter is the fastest spinning planet in the Solar System. Jupiter can't ever become a star.
