WORLD JEWISH RELIEF JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Marketing Officer Reports to: Senior Marketing Manager Purpose: To support the marketing team with a particular focus on monitoring and evaluation of the Individual Giving strategy, leading on competitor analysis, benchmarking and innovations, and the management of specific elements of the direct marketing portfolio. Background: World Jewish Relief is dedicated to alleviating human suffering and serving the urgent needs of, primarily but not exclusively, Jewish communities who are at risk or in crisis around the world. Last year WJR raised in excess of £4.5m voluntary income supporting 59,908 vulnerable individuals, through 73 programmes, in 20 countries across the world. WJR’s Individual Giving programme is a critical element of the charity’s fundraising portfolio – now generating over £600,000 per annum with donations received via a range of integrated marketing channels. In addition the Marketing team respond swiftly to Emergency appeals, preparing all materials as required. Over the next year, we intend to develop further this vital income source by improving acquisition and retention rates, upgrading existing supporters and raising the profile of this rapidly developing organisation. The remit is to provide critical marketing support, effectively analyse and evaluate our key initiatives and lead on the project management and promotion of a variety of marketing projects. Key Responsibilities: Analyse our key fundraising appeals and campaigns and make recommendations for future activity. Ensure that our appeals are being carefully tested and that our donor lists are segmented effectively to produce the best possible results. Work with Senior Marketing Manager to ensure that when people donate, they are properly thanked, cared for and that our future marketing to them reflects their level of interaction with the charity. Make sure that this is all data-driven. Assist the Senior Marketing Manager on key (primarily direct mail) campaigns, including emergency appeals and Jewish festival appeals. Lead on sector insight; researching, monitoring, and benchmarking our strategy against our competitors – resulting in innovative new ideas. Develop and manage a marketing strategy for our Legacy Giving programme. Promote to key audiences via direct marketing techniques. Success to be measured against pledger and enquirer targets. Liaison with and representation on the cross-communal Jewish Legacy campaign. Lead on the project management of our tri-annual telemarketing campaigns and the annual Summer Raffle. Benchmarking, monitoring and drawing upon marketing best practice, adhering to Institute of Fundraising guidelines at all times. This means ensuring data protection laws and principles are adhered to and includes management of WJR’s complaints process. Source and meet with agencies, designers and suppliers to seek new marketing and fundraising opportunities for the team. PERSON SPECIFICATION Factor Skills / Status Required QUALIFICATIONS Degree level or equivalent SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND APTITUDE An ambitious, motivated and driven outlook will be one of the key indicators of success in this role An ability to analyse and evaluate and “think outside the box” is essential Previous direct marketing experience (in either a charity or commercial setting) highly desirable Outstanding clear and concise written and verbal communication skills Strong project management and organisational skills Strategic outlook, with ability to focus on key areas of work Creative, innovative and strong concept development skills Demonstrable ability to produce high quality work under pressure and to deadlines Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Some level of basic financial analysis would be a distinct advantage Ability to work in a team and use own initiative Experience of volunteer management would be an advantage OTHER An understanding of and empathy with values and work of World Jewish Relief Knowledge and understanding of the Jewish Community a distinct advantage Willingness to work additional hours according to specific event demands Normal Hours of Work: As this post is UK based, non-EU nationals will require current and valid permission to work in the UK Normal Hours of Work: 9:00 am to 5.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9.00 am to 2.00 p.m. on Friday although flexibility is required for additional hours at the request of senior management.
