BUILDING OUR DREAM HOME www.mtkc.org For 25 years, we’ve rented theatre space. We’ve transported sound equipment, sets, and costumes while training new staff at each venue. We find performing venues in Kansas City have become harder and harder to reserve. FOR 25 YEARS, MUSIC THEATRE K ANSAS CITY HAS BEEN DREA MING OF A PERM ANENT HOME. AND NOW WE HAVE A CHANCE TO M AKE THAT DREA M A REALIT Y. THE SPACE B&B THEATRES Thanks to the generosity of B&B Theatres, Music Theatre Kansas City has the opportunity to renovate a large 500 seat movie theatre in the Westglen B&B Shawnee movie complex into a full proscenium theatre, complete with: 92 YEARS > 1,000 sq ft stage > theatre lighting > fly space 9TH LARGEST IN THE MOVIE THEATRE BUSINESS 4TH GENERATION FAMILY-OWNED AND OPERATED > rehearsal hall > dressing rooms > office space THEATRE CHAIN IN THE COUNTRY THE IMPACT THE NEED This facility will be the first and only Cultural Arts Center in western Johnson County. In addition to allowing MTKC to strengthen and enrich our educational and professional programs, this performance space will also: PROJECTED BUDGET > provide a professional environment where thousands of children will learn valuable life skills through performance opportunties. OUR OFFERINGS Mainstage Shows Fully staged and orchestrated musicals provide educational and performance opportunities for young people ages 5 to 18. Camping Programs Day Camps: Week-long camps for performers ages 5 to 12. Residential Camps: Week-long camps held at Baker College for performers ages 12 to 18. A fully-staged and orchestrated musical is presented. Senior Year Programs Senior Show: Each spring, the talents of our graduating seniors are showcased in a fully-staged and orchestrated musical. DISTINCTIONS We offer scholarships to more than 30 students each year who would not otherwise be able to participate in mainstage productions and camping programs. We are committed to using full orchestration as originally intended by the composers. At least 25 percent of our orchestra positions are filled by student musicians. Our summer camping programs have broadened our geographical reach, with performers coming from states such as Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota. On our annual “MTKC in NYC” trip, 20-30 students travel to New York City to attend shows, participate in various classes and workshops, and perform for Broadway Casting Directors. OUR REACH MTKC students represent these 12 Kansas City area counties: College Showcase: In Fall, graduating seniors have the opportunity to perform for college representatives from musical theatre programs who attend from across the country. SunRaise Choir Our high school students combine talents in this service-driven ensemble, entertaining audiences at venues such as retirement homes, holiday community events, local youth organizations, the Plaza Lighting Ceremony, and the UMKC Pride Breakfast. MTKC Pro Our professional theatre company provides paid performance opportunities for artists to further the quality and quantity of musical theatre in Kansas City. We are committed to featuring Kansas Citygrown talent first before drawing from other major markets.
