METABOLISM RNSG 1128 Introduction to Health Care Concepts Concept – METABOLISM Concept Definition The processes of biochemical reactions occurring in the body’s cells that are necessary to produce energy, repair, and facilitate the growth of cells, and maintain life. Exemplars None Objectives 1. Explain the concept of metabolism (including definition, antecedents, and attributes). 2. Analyze conditions which place a patient at risk for metabolic imbalance. 3. Identify when a metabolic imbalance (negative consequence) is developing or has developed. 4. Discuss (briefly) exemplars of common metabolic disorders. 5. Apply the nursing process (including collaborative interventions) for individuals experiencing a metabolic imbalance and to promote normal metabolic regulation. Assignments Prior to class: 1.
