Definition: Describes where places are There are two ways to describe location: Absolute Relative Its location on the globe Using longitude (long, up and down) and latitude (side to side) lines ▪ Paris France is 48o North Latitude and 2o East Longitude. Food, music, art, holidays Ethnic groups Defined by nature Landforms (mountains, plains, hills….) Bodies of water (rivers, lakes, oceans…) Climate/weather Vegetation/ plant life Wildlife/ animals Natural resources How do people adapt to, change , or depend on the environment? How do goods, people and ideas get around? Human Movement Trucks, Trains, Planes, Boats, Cars, Bicycles Information Movement Phones, computer (email), mail, fax, video conferencing Idea Movement How do fads move from place to place? ▪ TV, Radio, Magazines, Social media WHAT ARE THE COMMON FEATURES OF AN AREA? Definition: Group of places that have one common characteristic 3 Types: Formal Regions Functional Regions Perceptual Regions 1.
