     Location Place Human-Environment Interaction Movement Regions WHERE IS IT?  Definition: Describes where places are  There are two ways to describe location:  Absolute  Relative  Its location on the globe  Using longitude (long, up and down) and latitude (side to side) lines ▪ Paris France is 48o North Latitude and 2o East Longitude.  Street address (local location). ▪ The White House is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.  Latitudeeast to west  E and W  LongitudeNorth to South  N and S  Location based on what is around it  Compare it to other places  Examples:  Close to, far from, a mile passed, etc…  Cardinal direction- North, east, south, west ▪ Northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest  Hemispheres- Northern, Southern, East, West What is it like there? What are the physical and human characteristics?      Defined by culture; human ideas and actions What are the main languages, customs, and beliefs. How many people live, work, and visit a place. Food, music, art, holidays Ethnic groups        Defined by nature Landforms (mountains, plains, hills….) Bodies of water (rivers, lakes, oceans…) Climate/weather Vegetation/ plant life Wildlife/ animals Natural resources How do people adapt to, change , or depend on the environment? How do goods, people and ideas get around?  Human Movement  Trucks, Trains, Planes, Boats, Cars, Bicycles  Information Movement  Phones, computer (email), mail, fax, video conferencing  Idea Movement  How do fads move from place to place? ▪ TV, Radio, Magazines, Social media WHAT ARE THE COMMON FEATURES OF AN AREA?  Definition: Group of places that have one common characteristic  3 Types:  Formal Regions  Functional Regions  Perceptual Regions 1. Functional Regions: One place that affects the surrounding areas  Ex: Tennessee River Valley Region  The TN River affects the valley because it supplies water 3.
