Abraham Lincoln’s spouse’s name was Mary Todd Lincoln
(married in1842)
Abraham Lincolns kids’ names were Todd Lincoln, Robert
Todd Lincoln, William Wallace Lincoln, and Edward Baker
Lincoln.
Mary Todd Lincoln was not well accepted by the women in the
Washington, D. C. social circles because they considered her a
backwoods hillbilly.
Before he became president, Abe Lincoln
ran for the US Senate in 1855.
One son, William Wallace Lincoln, died in the White House. He was 11
years old.
President Lincoln was heard to say, “ "My poor boy, he was too good for
this earth. God has called him home. I know that he is much better off in
heaven, but then we loved him so. It is hard, hard to have him die!"
In his Gettysburg Address, Lincoln never let the world forget the
Civil War. This he stated most movingly in dedicating the military
cemetery at Gettysburg: "that we here highly resolve that these dead
shall not have died in vain--that this nation, under God, shall have a
new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the
people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
Presidential Accomplishments
He built the Republican Party into a strong party.
He rallied most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause.
On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which
declared slaves to be free
Interesting Fact:
Sadly, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865 by
John Wilkes Boothe while attending the theater.

us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the
nation's wounds.... "
Lincoln believed the Civil
War to be necessary
because secession was
illegal. Four slave states
remained in the Union.
Interesting Fact:
Lincoln suffered
depression and avoided
carrying a knife, fearing he
would use it on himself.
Cool Fact:
Lincoln believed that women
should have the right to vote!
Three of Lincoln’s sons died before adulthood. Abraham
Lincoln has no confirmed living descendants. The last
one, a great-grandson, died in 1985.
Interesting Fact:
Abraham Lincoln kept his important documents inside his hat.
