Easton 5801 Main Avenue Bow, Washington 98232 March 21, 2009 Mr. Barack Obama President of the United States The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500 Dear President Obama: I want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work on the Musical Plates Project. This project became more exciting and fun on a daily basis, as I was able to identify specific earthquake’s demonstrating more movement than other’s, from around the globe. The enclosed data represents the majority of earthquake activity coming from Indonesia, as compared to the rest of the world. Even more of an interesting find was the capturing of 34 earthquake motions taking place within a 23 hour timeframe. The reason being; the country of Indonesia mainly sits on the plate boundaries between the Australian, and Eurasian plates, grinding against or pulling away from one another. The data showing that Indonesia has been prone to earthquakes is indicative of movement at the plate boundaries. This to mean that if either the Eurasian or Australian plates are moving, and whichever of the plates touch the one that is moving, is were another earthquake can occur. Earthquake movement and volcanic activity is also a relationship I have been researching, and it does appear these two forces correlate. Volcanoes are made at plate boundaries and earthquakes are usually triggered when a volcano is being formed. They are formed by two plates that are converging at a subduction zone. I have determined that the quantity of earthquakes occurring is due to a creation of a new volcano. The volcano is being created somewhere in Indonesia on the plate boundary between the Eurasian and Australian plates. The plates are converging together; in this case, it is one continental plate and one oceanic plate converging at a subduction zone. In closing, thank you again for this opportunity. I am confident that the data will provide valuable insight as why, and how earthquakes become excitable, and the correlation between natural forces becoming energized by the other.
