Human Body Systems Project Objectives Digestive System: 1. Describe the purpose(s) of the system. 2. Identify the parts to the digestive system: mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestines, large intestines, and rectum. (Villi and chyme are also important vocab words to include). 3. Describe the role of each of these parts (and any enzymes) in converting macromolecules from food into smaller molecules to be used for energy, repair, and growth. 4. Explain how your system works/interacts with other systems. 5. Add graphics, cartoons, diagrams, animations, short video clips, demonstrations, games, activities, worksheets to supplement above information. Circulatory System: 1. Describe the purpose(s) of the system. 2. Identify the parts to the circulatory system: heart, arteries, veins, capillaries, red blood cells. 3. Describe the role of each of these parts in transporting nutrients and oxygen to cells and removing cell wastes. 4. Explain how your system works/interacts with other systems. 5. Add graphics, cartoons, diagrams, animations, short video clips, demonstrations, games, activities, worksheets to supplement above information. Excretory System: 1. Describe the purpose(s) of the system. 2. Identify the parts to the excretory system: kidney, liver, skin, lungs (bile and urine are also important vocab words to include). 3. Describe the role of each of these parts in removing waste from the body (kidneys remove nitrogenous wastes and liver removes toxic compounds from blood). 4. Explain how the kidneys and liver assist the circulatory system with the excretory function of removing water from the blood. 5. Explain how your system works/interacts with other systems. 6. Add graphics, cartoons, diagrams, animations, short video clips, demonstrations, games, activities, worksheets to supplement above information. Respiratory System: 1. Describe the purpose(s) of the system. 2. Identify the parts to the respiratory system: nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, lungs. alveoli. 3. Describe the role of each of these parts in the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. 4. Explain how your system works/interacts with other systems. 5. Add graphics, cartoons, diagrams, animations, short video clips, demonstrations, games, activities, worksheets to supplement above information. Nervous System: 1. Describe the purpose(s) of the system. 2. Identify the main parts of the system: central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (sensory neurons and motor neurons). 3. Identify the basic unit of the nervous system, the neuron, and explain how it works. 4. Describe the role of each of these parts in communication between different parts of the body and the body’s interaction with the environment. 5. Explain how your system works/interacts with other systems. 6. Add graphics, cartoons, diagrams, animations, short video clips, demonstrations, games, activities, worksheets to supplement above information. Muscular/Skeletal System: 1. Describe the purpose(s) of the systems. 2. Differentiate between skeletal, smooth, and cardiac muscle. 3. Identify the relationship between bones, cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. 4. Explain the relationship between the muscular and skeletal system. 5. Explain how your system works/interacts with other systems to support and allow for movement. 6. Recognize that bones produce both red and white blood cells. 7. Add graphics, cartoons, diagrams, animations, short video clips, demonstrations, games, activities, worksheets to supplement above information.
