The First Pillar of Islam – Shahadah – Faith
* Belief in one God and that Muhammad is His prophet
The Second Pillar of Islam – Salah – Daily Prayers
* 5 times a day – facing Mecca (dawn, noon, late afternoon, sunset, before going to bed)
The Third Pillar of Islam – Zakah – Giving to Charity
* Giving money to the poor, which used to be required but is now optional
The Fourth Pillar of Islam – Sawm – Fasting
* During the month of Ramadan, Muslims cannot eat or drink anything during the daylight
hours (from sunrise to sunset)
The Fifth Pillar of Islam – Hajj – Pilgrimage
* Once in their lives – IF they can afford it, Muslims make a pilgrimage to Mecca
