Types of Vaccines Varicella DTaP Hib Protects against chickenpox Protects against diphtheria, pertussis, & tetanus Protects against Haemophilus influenzae Can cause blisters, bleeding disorders, brain swelling, & pneumonia Can cause swelling of the heart, heart failure, coma, pneumonia, difficulty breathing & death Bacterial infection that can cause blocking of the windpipe, pneumonia, & even death Hep A & Hep B Protects against hepatitis A & B Direct contact, contact with blood or body fluids Can cause liver failure, liver cancer, kidney, pancreatic, and blood disorders MMR Protects against measles, mumps, & Rubella Can cause brain swelling, deafness, and inflammation of the testicles or ovaries In pregnant women, can lead to miscarriage, birth defects, & stillbirth IPV Protects against Polio May be no symptoms but can lead to paralysis and death PCV Protects against pneumococcus May be no symptoms but can cause a blood infection and even death RV Protects against rotavirus Air, direct contact, through the mouth Causes severe diarrhea & dehydration Vaccines are not just for Kids • Children ages 11-12 years old should receive the Tdap (whooping cough), HPV, and MCV4 vaccines. •A booster shot is recommended at age 16 of the Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV4). •All adults need the flu vaccine annually and the Td or Tdap vaccine.
