ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR MUSICAL THEATRE SPECIALIST – Tenure Track San Francisco State University, School of Theatre and Dance invites applicants for a tenure-­‐
track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Musical Theatre beginning August 2016. The department seeks individuals with a background in musical theatre with a specialization in stage and/or musical direction, choreography or other relevant leadership areas. The position is in the School of Theatre & Dance at San Francisco State University. SF State is a member of the California State University system and serves a diverse student body of 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The School of Theatre and Dance is one of the nation's most historically important programs, with a current average of 300 undergraduate students. The School of Theatre and Dance is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). The curricula provide students with a background for advanced study in the dramatic arts for a career in professional theatre, for teaching theatre arts, or as a steppingstone towards higher learning. To this end, the School of Theatre and Dance employs its three theatre spaces as learning laboratories in which students collaborate with faculty and guest professionals; studio workshops and advanced stage productions in those theatres are the culmination of the educational experience. The School of Theatre and Dance offers a comprehensive program of both practical and theoretical courses for undergraduate and graduate students whose interests focus on educational and professional theatre and/or dance. As a center for the training of future theatre artists, the School of Theatre and Dance is committed to introducing a diversity of theatrical traditions and cultures to students. Qualifications: Candidates must have an MFA (or equivalent degree) in a relevant field from an accredited institution; three or more years of college level teaching experience demonstrating excellence in teaching specialty courses in musical theatre, movement, voice, musical theatre history, acting and/or related areas; experience in preparing and leading productions for public performance; experience with educational planning including college committees and curriculum development; experience with program assessment, continuous ongoing evaluation, and accreditation; and an active program of research and/or creative activity in performance and/or theatre studies. Candidates are preferred who have teaching and/or research experience with a large, diverse student body and in multicultural settings; networks in local, regional or national professional or educational organizations; experience developing courses and curricula; evidence of learner-­‐centered teaching and ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed; experience using a variety of teaching tools, including software, video and audio technology; experience with a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles; demonstrated ability to function and collaborate in a collegial team setting; and demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff and administrators. Responsibilities: The position requires teaching undergraduate classes in areas of performance, musical theatre, acting, directing, and/or movement/choreography in the School of Theatre and Dance; contributing to the departmental production program; mentoring and advising undergraduate students; maintaining an active ongoing scholarship program and/or program of creative work in one's area of specialty; and ongoing committee and service assignments.
