NEWSLETTER September - October 2016 MUSLIMS BELIEVE THAT EMAN (FAITH IN ALLAH) IS BOTH SPEECH AND ACTION Islam is a religion of Action and work not just teachings and sayings. Rather, Muslims have to combine both speech and actions to survive in this world and the Hereafter. Allah (SWT) always attaches deeds to belief when he says in the Qur’an “And those who believed and did good deeds are the people of Jannah (Garden) residing there forever” (Al-Baqaraa 82). Therefore, if the Muslim believes in Allah just with his tongue when he/she utters the statement of Shahada (La Ilaha Ila Allah, Muhammadun Rasoolu Allah), this type of Eman is not sufficient to take him to Jannah and the pleasure of Allah. This Eman has to be joined with practice of the obligations that Allah (SWT) made Fard (obligation) to express his Eman through action and practice. If we take the statement of Shahada as an example, we will realize that this statement is divided into three parts. First, the negation in (La Ilaha) There is no deity or God. Second, we affirm that (Ila Allah) Except Allah. Thus, we negate the existence of a God in the first part and affirm the existence of one God, Allah in the second part. This negation and confirmation does not just come by uttering the statement of Shahada by our tongue rather; we have to proof it by our actions. We have to believe that Allah is the one and only God in our life. Then we have to worship him alone and follow his commandments. In this issue... Faith in Allah Announcements Project Update [email protected] meadowvale-islamic-centre mici.org 6508 Winston Churchill Blvd. Mississauga Ontario L5N 3W4 Canada NEWSLETTER September - October 2016 Page 2 The Third part of the statement of Shahada is (Muhammadun Rasoolu Allah) Muhammad peace be upon him is the messenger of Allah. As Muslims, we cannot say Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah and not to follow him. Therefore, following him is an action of practicing our faith, which has to come into our lives to be considered real followers of Muhammad peace be upon him. Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an “Say; if you love Allah, follow me, He will love you and forgive you your sins.” (Al Imran. 31) Current Programs 5 Times Prayers Jumma Prayers Taraweeh /Eid Prayers Now, we come to a very important point in defining our Eman as Muslims to say, “Eman is the Utterance of the tongue, the belief of the heart, and the action of the limbs.” These three parts are the main components of our Eman. If we miss one of them, our Eman is not complete and not on the way of our beloved prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. If we just believe with our tongues without having the belief in Allah deep in our heart, we will be like the hypocrites who say something and believe in something different. Allah (SWT) describes the hypocrites to the prophet in Surat Al-Fath saying, “They say with their tongues which is not in their hearts.” (Al Fath. 11) Daily Hadith Ali Ibn Abi Talib may Allah be pleased with him reported that the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said, “Eman is the utterance of the tongue, practicing the Arkan (obligations), and certainty of the heart.” In this hadith, the prophet is drawing the road map for the Muslims who are seeking Allah’s pleasure and forgiveness. The prophet is telling the whole Ummah that Eman has three major components (saying with the tongue- belief in the heart- action of the limbs). Thus, whoever takes or believes in some of these components and leaves some, his Eman is incomplete. We all have to say La Ilaha Ila Allah, Muhammadun Rasoolu Allah, believe in it, and act upon it. Therefore, when we say the Shahada by our tongue, it has to be translated into actions by our limbs while believing in it by our hearts. This was the main reason for the Sahabah may Allah be pleased with them all to leave Madinah after the prophet’s death to spread Islam around the world. If Islam was just the speech of the tongue and the belief of the heart without acting upon what they believe, they should have stayed in Madinah and worship Allah there till their death. They understood the reality of Eman from the prophet peace be upon him when they heard him saying, “He tasted the sweetness of Eman, whoever is pleased with Allah as his Lord, Islam as his Deen (Religion), and Muhammad as his Messenger.” This sweetness of Eman will not come to the hearts of believers till they believe in Allah and act upon their belief, believe in Islam as their religion, and Muhammad as their Messenger. These three pillars will not be achieved till Muslims practice their faith and support their belief with actions that go along with the Qur’an and the Sunnah.
