2016 AUSTRALIAN LUNG CANCER STUDIES
The Centre for Community-Driven Research is working with the Lung Foundation
Australia to understand the type and level of care that lung cancer patients need.
STUDY 1: LUNG CANCER PATIENT’S TREATMENT AND HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE1
Aim: The aim of this study is to understand the experience of lung cancer patients in
relation to their treatment and their experience in the hospital system.
Types of questions: For this study we will be asking questions about treatment side
effects, the type of information that patients receive to make decisions about
treatment and their experience in the hospital setting.
Time commitment: The interview will take approximately 30 minutes and will be
conducted via telephone.
How we will use the information collected: The information we collect in this study
will be presented to government and entered into peer reviewed publications to
inform how they decisions are made about the treatments that lung cancer patients
have access to.
STUDY 2: LUNG CANCER PATIENT QUALITY OF LIFE STUDY2
Aim: The aim of this study is to understand the impact of lung cancer on overall
quality of life and what patients expect from new treatment options.
Types of questions: For this study we will be asking questions about life before
cancer was diagnosed, the conversations that patients had with their healthcare
team at diagnosis, and how cancer impacts quality of life for themselves and their
family.
Time commitment: This study will involve a telephone interview which will take
approximately 30 minutes and an online questionnaire which will take approximately
15 minutes. The questionnaire can also be completed in writing and posted in the
mail.
How we will use the information collected: The information we collect in this study
will be presented to government and entered into peer reviewed publications to
inform how they decisions are made about the treatments that lung cancer patients
have access to.
