STI's Bacteria vs. Virus (A Health Webquest) Introduction: This lesson is designed with two purposes. The first purpose it to educate you about some of the more common Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s). Second is to teach you the differences between a viral (virus) and bacterial (bacteria) STI’s The Task: I. Your task is to view the various links which have been highlighted in this webquest. There are several pieces of information you will gather from the following activity. What is an STI? What is the difference between a virus and bacteria? What are three STI bacterial infections and how are they treated? What are three viral STI infections and how are they treated? What are some symptoms of these STI's? What types of preventative measures can one use to avoid STI's? II. After carefully viewing each of the links, you and your group may take the quiz together. III. Once you have passed the quiz, you can go to the last step: IV. Write a 1/2 page summary of one particular STI including information on the following: Is the STI viral or bacterial? How is it treated? What ways are there to prevent getting the disease and/or transmitting it, and what are some symptoms? The Process: To accomplish the task, you must go through specific steps. Use the links you are given as they come up in your reading of this lesson. As you come across a link, click on it and read the information presented, and then make a few notes as to what you have learned before you move on. (The notes will help you in the quiz). You may work with one partner or alone. If you work with a partner each of you are responsible for handing in your own completed worksheet for each section; this means you CANNOT put both of your names on one worksheet… #1. After you have finished the group work online, you are to work individually on the last portion of this assignment. #5. Choose one STI that you have researched, and do the following Name the STI. State whether it is a virus or a bacteria. Tell how it can be prevented, transmitted, and treated, and list some symptoms of the STI. Conclusion: After completing this STI health webquest hopefully you have enough information to direct you to make some smart choices to keep yourself healthy, safe and infection free.
